Heres a pic of the GVR's (JELX) new Dash 840 CW undergoing rebuilding at the GVR backshops in Grand Rapids. The locomotive was damaged in a grade crossing accident. The new cab was built from EMD components by GVR shop crews By the way this is only the second pic taken with the new digital camera
Great picture of a nice looking loco Catt. Wide cabs rule eh!!! What kind of camera did you get? [ 09 March 2002, 04:29: Message edited by: Robin Matthysen ]
Heres a sideview shot.Notice the blank panels under the cab now have doors on them. I still need to move the numberboards and decide if I want to super detail her or not. Most of her runtime will be on NTRAK so most likely NOT!!
Catt, The loco is looking great so what type will it be when finished? a hybrid GEC and EMD??? . Will you be painting it in the GVR scheme?
Here's a pic with the numberboards filled(new ones go above the windsheilds)The blank styrene under the cab has been replaced with the equipment boxes from the stock GE cab. Paul ,the early CN C44-9Ws used a Canadian wide cab similar to what was used on their EMD locos. This cab is modeled after that cab.The difference is that CN did not have any C40-8Ws. The GVR/JELX story is that we bought some C8-40Ws with wreck damage and repaired them with the Canadian style cabs from EMD kits. Forgot your colour question . Final colour will be GTW blue no matter which division of the company it is lettered for. [ 10 March 2002, 04:37: Message edited by: Catt ]
Awesome Catt! I am glad to see our roads getting new motive power. Sure wish that my road had room for some big equipment and wide cabs. BTW - Is that a Kato or Bachmann unit? <img src=http://www.trainboard.com/sigbreak.gif> Russ
Russ,it is an ATLAS SD60M modified 3 window cab on a B-mann C40-8W shell setting on a KATO C30-7 mech. I may have to start all over again with a new shell as the former owner butchered the pilots on this one. I am having a rough time trying to repair them.
