The challenge is now closed, 15 entrants which is the best yet. congratulations to all who participated. I have set the poll so start voting oh by the way while walking to the station from work I found the next topic for our next challenge.
Looks like you weren't the only one having trouble. Three people voted and there are ten votes. That shows the entrys were all good shots. Good luck to all for a job well done.
I see that one side of the frog seems to have no room for the wheel flange to pass. How does this work or what is this type of switch used for? Some type of derail or spring switch? Thanks.
It is an automatic spring loaded frog. Notice the two cylinders to the right of the guard rail in the frog. They are spring loaded to keep the gap closed in the flangeway thus eliminating the gap the wheel would travel over while on the normal (straight rail) route. It creates a smoother ride over the turnout and cuts down on the need to build up or weld on the frog as a result of the continuous hammering they take from the wheels of the train. When the wheels travel through the frog when the turnout or switch is in the reverse position, the flange strikes the guard rail and pushes it away opening up the flangeway for the wheel flange.
WOW!!!!! The votes are all over the board, this will be fun to watch!!!!!!! :shade: :shade: :shade: :shade:
