Its been awhile since I've had a subscription to Trains so Ive lost touch on the fate of EMD/GE 6000 hp units. Whats happend to these units. If I remember correctly both builders had reliability problems, and there effcientcy was far less than adverstised, compounded by rising fuel costs. So are these units dead to the railroads?
Phil, Is that one of the ex-FECX SD40's I spy there?I heard these SD40's were a stop-gap until more AC6000 turned up?Plus a ex-SP tunnel mtr there somewhere?
How cool, this is the company I work for,Kingston Ind.,Perth division heavy haulage! This is one of those SD's before it got it's current paint,
Very nice pic's Jason and Phil, thanks for sharing. Phil, are those pics recent? BHP was one of the customers screaming the loudest about the ac60. Upon initial receptions, road crews were complaining about blown turbo chargers on a daily basis. If that photo is recent then maybe GE finally got the bugs worked out?
