Does anyone have construction plans to build a 4X8 Table for your layout? If anyone has any plans please tell me. (I want to hear some different ideas besides mine) Thanks [IMG]

    Hi Mike,
What scale are you looking for? When folks mention a "4x8 layout", I generally think HO scale.... Not only is the layout size a consideration, but many times the room size is as well; sometimes a different layout might work better in a given space. Let us know so we can help you better!

Thanks for the reply Harold. Well as you know I am looking for plans for a 4'X 8' layout. I forgot to tell you that this is indeed for an HO layout, and I already have a space set out for it, I hope this helps, Thanks [IMG]

  4. Well, if it is plans that you are looking for, there are any number of sources including the "HO Railroad that Grows" book. The NMRA will be puting up some beginners to advanced pages on Christmas Day which will contain a 4x8 that expands. This will probably give you some good ideas of what you can do with a 4x8.

You can check their site at http://www.nmra.org for the link after noon on Monday.

I'm getting ready to build a 4 X 8 setup for my 10 year old son. Having just built a garage, I'll probably use some traditional building techniques. A sheet of OSB, with a 2X4 box frame under it and "removable" legs to make a very stiff table. Having built a 4X8 setup before, I learned the hard way that trestles don't like ANY flex at all in the table. It "scrunches" the elevated track to no end. Good luck!

It'll be just freehand. I'm in Utah, so we'll be loosely following the moutain theme with a tunnel, grades and crossings. Mainly a rural setting. I'm keeping pretty close to the UP for cars and locos.
