SLSF Northern 4500, donated to the city of Tulsa, OK after its retirement, has been moved to temporary storage on the city's west side. Here is the post and a link to pictures of this magnificent locomotive, from the Tulsa Layout Operations Group in Yahoo!: Hey folks – hot off the press! Here are some pics of the 4500's move earlier today. http://www.pbase. com/sammy1974/ gallery/frisco_ 4500 If anyone wouldn't mind to send me a pic of the 4500 sitting at the zoo, I'd like to add it to this group of pics to help show the time line of this locomotive. Of course, I'll be sure to give proper credit to the photographer. Thanks for looking, Sammy Carlile
According to what I've read, it's in temporary storage at a refinery in west Tulsa (must be the Sun Oil refinery), and will later be moved to its new home along old US66 as part of a roadside park. Hopefully its place in the refinery will protect it from the local "artists".........
Bob, she really looks good. Any chance she can join the "museum" in work at OK City? My buddy Mike Morgan was involved with some the restoration on 4500. :tb-biggrin:
Very interesting! I spotted the old girl rusting on the siding near Owasso, while on final approach to Tulsa International a few years ago. My son and I drove/walked to her and took some 35mm photos. I presume 4500 is not located for public viewing yet (12.23.2010). I'd love to know when she gets back on proper display. Maybe next time I'm back in town from Illinois we can see her.
