The're Here!!!! SMOOOOOTH, silent running, and decent puller, tested with three Athearn commuter cars no slipping, but four was too much, just out of the box. the stinker will be changing the coupler. pics up soon!!!

here they are [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do4oSH-2RkE"]YouTube - 44tonner[/ame] sorry, I didn't get any more, the batteries went down in my camera, and won't be recharged until tomorrow.
Don't know the only part of the order that we got in was one box of six B&O, non of the other 44 tonners or the DDA40s, but I figure they will get here the same day next week as the Kato ACes and The PCM E-8's. O' my poor debit card will be smoking!!!
That looks pretty good actually. And good timing, because I was thinking of doing something based on the USN. Is there a way to put a little dude in the window, or is that space taken up by weights? Dave The Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Ry. Archive & Email List Elgin, Joliet Eastern Railway Archive
Whats the speed range like? is it all or nothing, or does it have good slow speed capability? Another thing is throttle range, is it zero to 200 plus? or does it have a reasonable top end? R
I'll 'fess up that I have one coming strictly as a lab rat. Watching todays mail. The time between arrival and dissassembly will be measuered in minutes. I'm noticing that there are a couple subtle changes from the pre-production model. The 'lip' at the cab roof (which is copied from the HO model, not from the 44-tonner) is much less pronounced. And the handrails are much less clunky-looking. Same with the headlight. I had to chuckle with Joe here in the thread. You can say all you want about steeple cabs, I'm going to give you about two weeks to figure out a coupler replacement before it drives everybody crazy. THAT you can do in Z scale knuckle, too! That video is super impressive. It would be hard to believe that there's a bad pickup system in there with that low-speed performance.
If it is what I think it is, a milling machine will be on order. The key to something like a Heisler is that the pickups have to be 'old school' and on the inside, more like Atlas' Shay. End-cups will kill it. Gerd made it work on the Kato critter, but it was really difficult, really difficult.
Sounds pretty close to the amount the HO scale 44-tonners can pull, and close to the prototypes. In real life, they weren't heavy-tonnage engines. Wonder if that new apply-on-out-of-the-bottle stuff, placed on a wheel or two, would help the pulling power a mite....... I agree, they look nice! They'd make neat industrial switchers.
One on the way The "BID" (see web site) found one scraped and has had it rebuilt to new (okay it is new). They received an email yesterday that it was on its way via the GD&R, read USPS. They are concerned about the couplers. Not sure why the "BID" needed one, but...:desire:
