i moved out of my appartement in april. had to disassemble my layout into pieces, small enough for moving, large enough to reassemble the layout. for different reasons reassembly will never be the case. so i started dismantling the layout. saving only what i can use in the future. so far 2/3 of my former layout is gone.
if things go well i will have a new train room by end of april 2016. 76m2 / 818sqft. ....... just ordered 16 30-packs of 3ft peco flex track.....
So many layouts gone due to necessity of moving. It's especially sad when they cannot be rebuilt or even replaced at all. Good to read that you can start anew.
Nice in a way that you could have a funeral pyre of sorts for the old layout, although I'm sure it was an emotional event. Good luck with the next incarnation!
That's the kind of thing that gets you. I may be facing something similar but am trying not to think about it - denial can be fun. Keep a positive mental attitude!
Could get you arrested in California for burning like that, lucky you that you are not here, and lucky me, I am on my way to Geneva for work!
I've moved six times since I started working on my layout. Since I knew I would probably be moving several times in my life until I settle into retirement, I decided early on to build my layout in portable 6' sections, so my layout always just breaks down, folds up and comes with me. Not every section has survived the time, but every section has survived the moves. If my space is configured differently, I can make modifications to my old sections, or make new ones so that I can set up and run trains with minimal effort. If for any reason I don't like a section, I can salvage most of it, including the benchwork and integral folding legs, strip off the scenery, scenery base, track and subroadbed...clean things up a bit and make a new LDE in place of the old one...and when I have to move next time, everything comes with me. Works for me, and several of my local model railroad friends... Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
david, for how long will you be in geneva ? any plans to see zurich as well ? i could have re-install the layout. just didn't want to. i soon have 3 times more space and i want to get rid of some of the design flows of the layout.
no plans yet. just some ideas. will feature a large staging yard. capacity of 1000+ cars would be cool.
I must live right. I can turn my layout sideways and carry it right out the door. Hope i never need to, But can if i need too.
I will be there for a month, and if all goes well, I may end up there permanently. May check out Zurich while I am there.
