Thank you for the great pictures from the show. Great to see pre-productions of Atlas new S-2, instead of drawing at National Train Show in Grand Rapids MI. Will go broke buying Atlas S-2's and Fox Valley B&O wagontop cabooses and PRR H-30 hoppers.
David, thanks for taking the time to post all the photos...much appreciated by those of us unable to attend. The new S-2 looks awesome....looks like a hybrid metal/plastic casting? Thanks and regards, Otto K.
When it was first announced I thought the body was all metal, like the Arnold units. Please do ask for more info. Update:Found the info here https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/405363_10151743379830110_125305928_n.jpg
I believe Paul said that the shell is going to be metal, which will be nice to add weight to the loco.
There was another topic here very recently, where Paul replied regarding this question. If someone would link that in, I believe we'd have our answer.
From the other thread: "The majority of the items in black in the photos (the hood) are die cast, the gray items are plastic.Paul Graf Atlas Model Railroad Company"
I hope that FVM does the wagon top covered hopper. I tried to follow the article in an early N-Scale magazine on this conversion using the Fine N Scale wagon top box car, but, it failed.
