I just returned home tonight from railfest. I have to say both the community and Union Pacific were GREAT hosts and put on a fantastic event. Here are a few pictures that we took on our arrival Friday night. I will post more photos as time permits.

Before heading to the hotel I drove by the Golden Spike Tower to try to capture a few dusk images.

We loved it! I found Railfest to be well worth the drive. I will try to start posting some pictures from our Bailey Yard bus tour soon.

    Day 2

We woke up Saturday morning to a dense fog. After grabbing breakfast we set out to Cody Park to see if we could catch a morning bus tour of Bailey Yard.

We lucked out and managed to get some seats on a bus. Here is a view of UP 844 as we pass by it on our way to the yard.

And a couple more shots that were shot through the bus window.

We stopped at the North Platte Diesel Facility and were told that only one rabbit (pilot car) was operating today to escort our bus and that we had to wait for it to return. Our tour guide decided to let us proceed with the tour around the facility first.

The Union Pacific had some of it's heritage units on display at the diesel facility.

    A look into 1983's engine.

And a shot of the cab from outside the right window.

We were told that we would be staying at the facility for an additional 30 minutes so that the pilot car could escort an additional bus. One of the U.P. employees decided to let the kids crawl inside the cab of 1983 to help pass the time. My son was in heaven!

I took one last picture of the heritage units from the bus as we proceeded on with the tour.

Boy, those are really pretty, Ben, and thanks for sharing with all of us. I think you should have your own forum this week for "Prototype Photos of the Week." Great stuff, and hope you had as much fun taking them as we are watching them. :tb-biggrin:

Very nice. Glad to see the SLC olympic unit is still well kept.
Thinking back to my days in Cheyenne, and knowing a bunch of the UP Steam crew, I cannot remember who "Puddin' Head" is. Henry Krening?
