Not certain how main railroads are being effected by all the rain falling in places; but, I for one have been keepin my eye on the news as this is effecting D&H areas very seriously.
Recent updates coming in from fellow D&H Railfans... Oneonta - major washout Binghamton Yard - no power at yard office; south end of yard under water; all yard operations suspened until further notice. Freight Main MP 712 (north of Nescopeck) - major washout R&N Main MP LS147 - major washout NS Lehigh Line near Jim Thorpe, PA - major washout CP is dispatching a ballast train to head south from Canada and fix washouts from north to south. Until water recedes and lines fixed, all train operations south of Oneonta suspended.
Information in from Robert Dennis (D&H/CP) "Heads up for "possible" CSX detours on CP and CN due to flooding on the ex NYC Water Lever Route east of Buffalo" "the chicago line-- aka the mohawk sub has been closed since the wee hours of this morning (wed). Closure is between cp188 in fonda and cp173 -- account flooding and a washout. " "First detour train to leave Montreal westbound at 08:00 Thursday morning." "D&H 252 with CP 5420 leading" is the first freight to detour on CSX's Riverline, called for 0945 in Saratoga take train to Kenwood, I would image 165 would be next. should be a long day for me....
From a message I received last night RECORD FLOODING AT:BAINBRIDGE,NY; VESTAL,NY; BINGHAMTON's gage is knocked out; WAVERLY,NY/SAYRE,PA; TOWANDA,PA; MESSOPPEN (is OFF the chart),PA; Wilkes-Barre: 34' and climbing to 40'
And yet there are extremely large fires in the West, including one that's closed the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Up here in Northwest Washington, it's too dang' hot to do anything!! :sun::shade: It's usually the other way around!
Send some of that rain down here to the southeast. It's really hot and dry this summer. My grass is dying and we sure could use the rain.
So far, we're having a very normal summer. Including a few weeks ago, flooding...... Boxcab E50
Rain? What's rain? I'm here in northwest New Mexico, and the rivers are bone-dry. If it weren't for the occasional "Methodist shower" rainfall (Texan for a sprinkling rain that barely settles the dust), we'd have no rain at all- and the western half of the Navajo NAtion is literally going up in smoke. Can't wait to get back to Texas where there's stilll water in the rivers (for now) You folks in the NE part of the country have my deepest sympathies, with all that flooding...... .
The D&H north of Binghamton will probably be closed until around the 5th, possibly longer due to washouts. The Southern Tier between Binghamton and Waverly was supposed to reopen last night but I don't know if that happened as planned. East of Binghamton on the old Delaware Div. (now NYS&W), there were several major washouts and (unverified) tales of a bridge gone somewhere around Hancock. This is the worst for the RRs that I've ever seen. It's going to be a long summer of slow orders while they fix everything.
