With the $60 sale at Trainwold, I was about to gather the stuff to do this project. I though "Father Nature" was going to do a camelback shell to fit the MDC (now Athearn) 2-8-0. I check my link, and the site was last updated in October of 2003. Anyone know what's up with that? Or was it someone else doing those?
LT: Small Scale Logistics I think had done one. If I remember, it looked very nice. I have not done a conversion on them, but thought the same thing when I heard about the price. - Talk about unique! - Dang! just checked their site and could find nothing about it. Might be worth e-mailing them about it - [ 19. January 2005, 20:24: Message edited by: Boxies ]
Email sent. Will share what I find out. Looks like Cliff Darrow has relocated and gone back to school. Anyone have one of Small Scale Logistics Camelback kits? If you have one to share info about, please post. If you have one you don't need, please contact me off the board. Thanks!
Me, too! I would love to see MDC-Athearn come out with a Camelback based on their 2-8-0 chassis! Or maybe modified to a 4-6-0. I'd buy a whole zoo of Camels if it came on MDC's dependable frame!
The Small Scale Logistics website linked to the NMRA Manufacturers Index pages is no longer there. Assume they have ceased operations. Recall seeing photos on the site in the past. It appeared to me that it was slightly too low slung for a proper Camelback.
You could always build a body for it. I remember seeing a 2-8-0 inspection locomotive, now that would be cool.
I looked for the MDC loco at the Trainworld site. Couldn't find anything. They have about the worst site in the whole web. I have thought about converting a B'mann Connie to a Camelback. I wonder if B'Mann would sell me a shell to practice on. A project like this would be a learning experience, and I would hate to screw up a perfectly good loco. Len
yep. but its there....on the main page... just scan down slowly... in the first column (not too far down) is the 2-6-0... and in the second column...not far from that...is the 2-8-0 (the n-scale and the HO-scale are together)
Ok, but this may scare you! Here is a Camelback that I made in the late 80's. It is an old 0-6-0 "Shifty Sam" chassis and various parts off of a minitrix decapod. I call it "FrankenCamel" Russ
Thanks! I think that it actuallyy might have looked better if I would have gotten that tender a little closer though. That fireman must get soem sore arms! Russ
Thanks Sam. It took a little time but I found it. With that price, I am almost forced to buy it . How difficult is it to convert to DCC. Len [ 21. January 2005, 16:02: Message edited by: Len ]
Those who have DCC'ed the MDC's have usually raised the sideboards and coalpile to make room. The tender is pretty much a motor with a wrapper and wheels, as she comes. Challenging, I'd guess.
