I need to resurrect this thread to say thank-you to all who participated. Didn't mean to leave you hanging.

I did mickey mouse a temporary fix on the mogul. I dropped the drawbar down off the tender, using a very thin washer. It appears the current from the tender runs through the screw to a brass conductor on the drawbar and again through the screw on the loco and up into the motor. Working but I have intermittent stalls. Still not happy with the outcome.

It pulls my Overton Coaches around the layout like the proud lady she is. Although, tripping over here own high heels every so often. Sigh!

    Rick,

another problem with these engines (2-6-0 , 2-8-0) is that the side frames of the tender trucks tend to be to low, making contact with the adjoining rail at a Kato switch or Fleischmann turntable (7.5 degree spacing) and thus creating a short (with DCC).
Simple fix: filing the bottom of the side frames (brake shoes etc).
I fixed both of mine that way.

    Good suggestion.

I have both the 2-6-0 and the 2-8-0. Very satisfied with my 2-8-0. There is one problem...though.

Actually, I don't like the tender trucks at all. To wide. Thinking about finding a way to replace them.
