Nice, I've had luck with angles off vertical of 40-55 degrees working without supports. Keep us posted on how the work goes,

I need a tree for the front yard of a house I'm doing right now. I thought about 3D printing the core but I haven't taken the leap yet so I'll be watching with interest how this one evolves. My "customers" would trip out if I could reproduce their tree (it had kind of a double-trunk) instead of having an approximation as a stand-in.

    Cheers -Mike

well right now im having problem with tinkercad loading up stuff. i really need to learn other software for this.....tinker is getting very very very slow to use.
i may just have to print out limbs and glue them to the tree base's i have printed..its frustrating waiting for projects to load up...

well im getting almost done with the printed trees. i was finally able to get them loaded into tinker cad to be modded a bit.
they still need work ... i had moss from 6 years ago decided to use it on these. I dont think there too bad.
i need to work on the 3d files to improve the limbs ect . maybe shorter trees or taller trees ,maybe some fatter trees.

Nice, how long to print one and what print quality are you using?

longest to print was 50 minutes im just using standard print settings, but i need to change my nozzle and do some adjusting . I noticed i got strings in my prints some of witch was the flexing of the trees and the rest is just dirty nozzle and dusty filament. i normally don't get strings. my machine sat idle for a while (3 weeks or so uncovered ) i think my printer is bed temp 50C nozzle is 200 C i drop that to 195 as it gets closer to top (faster cooling) print quality is standard, walls is .08 line count 2, 20% infill might change that to 15 for test. No supports, No bed adhesion

Sidney: This may be 'out there'. Slow loading for any application you try to use, or just Tinker? If all applications: I also had problems with stuff loading up slow. After head scratching and cussing for a few days, it dawned on me to get the stethoscope out and listen to my hard drives as I wondered if they were starting to fail. They were thrashing right along, but no strange noises. If they are starting to fail, one of the things you can hear is the drive trying to seek a specific track in which the head 'homes' then seeks multiple times until it gets the specific track, or reaches a certain count of tries.

Ok, so lets defrag it. Right click on your drive ( DriveC in my case ), choose Properties, Tools then Optimize. Note that if you have SSD's, optimization is not available so there could be other problems. If not, Windoz tells you that it is done automagically on some schedule, although I found out this is NOT the case. Ok, so backup and do a 'disk cleanup'. The box that comes up allows you to clean the normal files -or- system files. Do both. I found that there was over 2Gig of Windoz update files spread around the drive along with other system stuff. This took about 30 minutes to finish. Do the normal files too. Go back to the Optimize selection. Select the drive you want to do or ALL of them. This *could* take over an hour so plan ahead. My supposed 'optimize on schedule' drive did 17 passes to relocate files and optimize them to get stuff put in order. After that, everything was loading fast and running as it should. Listening with the stethoscope again proved that my drive was not thrashing anymore. Now I do this after *any* windows update and seems to keep stuff running right along. This was on a dual 3Gig XEON, ton of memory and SAS raid drives.

Todd Hackett my computer has SSD drives its only a few months old. when i ordered it i got all the goodies max memory, SSD drives powerful video board.
Its a very fast computer built for speed as i cant stand slow computers at all. when i blink i EXPECT it to already be there before i am. IM fast and i like everything to be faster than me. I used to build all my computers untill parts became more expensive to buy so now i buy prebuilt and wipe out all there garbage .....its does have problem cooling the processor and i may have to go to water cool for that. it runs on the hot side according to the temp monitor.
its not my computer for sure . tinker is just slow to no go on importing files. i had some luck by using microcrap's 3d builder to simplify the files but now that seems to not work either... from what im understanding is that fusion360 bought out the tinker and so now there forcing you to use that. I simply do not understand how fusion 360 works and ive tried so many times and watched so many videos that i just gave up in frustration. i may be doomed at this point to never make any more things until there is some soft ware that im able to understand comes along. for some reason i just can not get my brain to work fusion 360 at all. i just get pissed off and im done.....wish i could learn to use it , its just beyond what my brain can figger. maybe im going about it all wrong i dunno. normally i can pick up on stuff quite fast. windows update does seem to screw stuff up for sure , its designed to do that of coarse. its a complete control of power. i dont know if i could use a linux system with tinker or not ,Hummmmm i might have to try that. i just gave away my linux box to my grand kid too.

I use about 6 commands in Fusion 360 for most of my work and the extrude command for the majority of that. Care to elaborate on where you are getting hung up? If we weren't about 1000 miles apart I'd stop by to see if I could help. Maybe we could work something out anyway. I'm no expert on Fusion so that is probably good as I try and keep it simple designing things. Let me know if I can help.

Here is the video that got me started and I still don't use everything in it. When I do the videos I start and stop it a bunch and do the same things on the computer. Come to think of it I should set my laptop up next to my main computer then I wouldn't have to switch the screen back and forth between the youtube and my fusion that is running...

I think once over the beginning hump you will take off with it. I love it and the fact that something so powerful and fast is available free. At this point I'd probably pay for it if I had to (but don't tell them).

sumner i started using matter control and that seems to be pretty easy for me to pick up on. i just started trying it out. so far its working for what i want it to do.. fusion is really complicated for me i dont know why. but i just cant get it. i watch the video on how to make a electrical box one one screen and and tried to build it with fusion on another screen ( i have daul monitors on this computer).. ( i should have stayed in school ,but then we would have starved to death ) ill watch this video you posted and see if that one can help me along... if we lived closer together you'd never get me out of your shop (y) but im sure i would learn a few things:)
Thanks for video ill watch it now..

Hey you're not alone. I tried it and was really confused why it just never flowed for me. I've been using Rhino3D for close to 15 years, figured Fusion wouldn't be too terrible but it just never clicked. My old version of Rhino doesn't have all the features of 360 but it does everything I need. (maybe all the features of 360 is what was tripping me up, overwhelming?) Rhino isn't free but I got my money's worth over the years for sure.

Here is 95% what I use:

All of these are under the 'Solid' Section (not sure what it is called):

    Under Create:
Extrude --- The major workhorse command--To me the command that is used by far the most.
There are a number of ways to use extrude so you want to learn what they are..

Pattern -- used to repeat a pattern (this is a little more complicated compared to the rest)
Mirror -- Mirror a body or component ( a component is a group of bodies that have been combined into a component)
    Line and Construction line
    Rectangle
Arc -- 3 point and center point

    Under Modify:
Combine -- joins bodies together to create a larger body which can be made into a component (what I want to end up with)
    Align
    Fillet
    Chamfer

    Under Assembly:
    Don't use any of these

    Under Construct:
    Plane through 3 points
Occasionally one of the other commands to setup a plane to work off of.

    Right Click with the Mouse:
    Move Command
    Copy Command
    Delete Command

That is the list of what I use in Fusion 360 and have designed almost everything I've designed using those commands. There is usually many, many ways to design something in Fusion so I could learn some new commands and probably save myself steps. Learn the commands listed above and you will have a good set of tools that you can design about anything we need for our layouts.

Don't let all the options on the screen make it harder than what it is to use,

Thanks sumner ive copied this and saved to a file so i can view this as i try fusion again. As stated earlier ive just started to use matter control and that seems to be working, although ive got some learning to do still with that. i did manage to get some kinda print from it ( it was not a good print but it was close ) i think tinker is headed out for good as i cant load any thing any more... too bad i really did like it for its ease....wish it was open source.

Thanks for the idea! That's something I haven't thought of printing. Can you share a link to those trees? I've found some but those look like they would print better.

CXX Robert i found them on thing verse and modded them in tinker (well the ones i could load any way ) A few i modded with cura , cura can do a lil bit of shrinking ,stretching ect ect. i look for trees in ho, o, any scale really and mod them as i need. just type in trees in thingiverse and a bunch should pop up . even hunt in cults as well. if i could get tinker to work i could make my own in that . im trying to learn matter control right now. There's a lot already done ,but you can mod them to your own liking IE cut limbs off, make them taller, fatter ect ect..
