The 1990-Milwaukee Road Book, by Hyde, how hard is it to find, whats a fair price, and with me modeling mid-late 60's Milw. Freight in Milwaukee, is it something I need?

Also, anyone know where I can come by a MRHA special pub# 3, Milwaukee Road, in Milwaukee, or a copy of one?

    Ron-

I have the Hyde book. It may not be what you need for Milwaukee during the 1960's. Although there are some earlier photos, content seems more of 1970's vintage subjects. For it's chapter "The Milwaukee Division," there are 12 pages. Sixteen photos. The following chapter, "The LaCrosse Division has a couple or three pictures in Milwaukee.

The book also has a few captioning errors or omissions. It's well worth having for any Milw fan. But for your specific wants, I'd say no.

They can be much overpriced. When found. So patience in shopping helps.

For the MRHA #3, about all I can say is to try the used railroad book dealers, watch eBay, ask shops in that region.

    Ron:

I too model the Milw. in the '60's and agree with Boxcab - the Hyde book is good if you are modeling the '70's. See if you can contact any hobby shops in Wisconsin, as I had seen that book at a hobby shop in my favorite Milw. town of Janesville last fall.

    Good luck!

Hey Ron, Welcome aboard! Always good to have another Milw. addict join in. I seen a copy of the book last Sat. at the train show in Madison Wis. new book, price $25. As I model 1950's Milw. I glanced at the book but there was nothing in there I could use for modeling. [IMG]

Holy cow!!! That's a steal!!! Wish I'd been there! Would have bought it to use as trade bait, or re-sell.

    Kurt,
Milwaukee Wis. and The Beer Line, still working up the track plan, I expect to be starting benchwork in the first room in the next month or so. Time frame depends on how quick I can get a 16' extention on the Barn built, so I can move my Colt and get him gelded. Currently he is living in our backyard, after his pen flooded, and is using our large covered cement back porch to sleep on, its the only way I could get him through the winter, and its also where I need to build my benchwork sections. He is a big (700 lbs) friendly, playful, smart, and curious critter and there is no way I want to try to build precision benchwork, anywhere he can get to.

SORRY Ken, I didn't know that was a good price or I would have picked some up. The guy had 5 of them, didn't get a card from him either. With the shape of my budget I wouldn't have had anything left for models. While we are talking books, what would you say is the best rolling stock book for Milw. in the 50's? [IMG]

He had five of them? Those were The Milwaukee Road by Fred Hyde? (Hyrail Productions- publisher?) At $25.00? [IMG]

A book specifically on 1950's Milw rolling stock? I don't know of one. You'd need to spot what you could, where it showed up. There are two books from Morning Sun on Milw Rolling stock. And some pictures do fit that time frame. There are some train views in the other five Morning Sun Milw books.

Ask around in your area. See if anyone has these seven books. Take a look at them. And see if any are helpful.

That's all that come into mind right now.

Boxcab, Yes those were the books, but I didn't catch the publishers name. I have seen the Morning Sun books and thought about buying them, I am trying to wait to find a used one, I can't seem to find new ones for under $45 apiece. Thats just a bit steep for me, But then again i'm in no hurry for them. Thanks [IMG]

    Andy-

I have seen one or two of the MS Milw books FS used. Prices mostly in the $35-50 range. And this has just been recently. So a few are starting to show up. Just keep an eye open.

Have not heard from you in a while. hope you are still here! If so, and you still need this book, please try contacting MRHA ASAP! They've found a small box of them! I'd bet they'll go fast!
