Here's a project that I'm currently working on. I built it using 2'x4' of 1" pink insulation foam. All radius's are 6 1/2in... or will be. I accidentally broke my On30 flex track. I need to use regular HO flex track for this project, as the larger ties don't look good in such tight curves. I will pick some more up this week and lay it, but, until then, I will continue to model what I can around it!

In the picture you can see the rough carvings of the hill, the pond, and the masked-over bridge. This was just before spray painting. You can also see the small depot I scratch-built for the layout in the top right corner.

Back from spray painting! Well, it didn't go so well. I was trying out this new spray paint I found at the store. It's textured, but the whole can couldn't cover enough of the layout... still lots of pink showing. Should have resprayed it... but I decided not to.

Now I need to cover up all this darn pink showing everywhere! I was working on the hill as a test-bed on this issue, as it will be covered up with dense foliage when completed anyways, so it doesn't matter as much. I found that sprinkling fine ground cover over dense stuff covers it up nicely, so I will continue with that method.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to cover up that pink?

6.5"radii?! Wow, what are you planning to run on this? I know the Bachmann 0-4-0 will handle some tight curves. As for the pink, the only thing I can think of is more ground cover or some tan latex paint for the part you haven't covered.

Your track broke? I'm guessing it was Micro Engineering? That stuff looks nice, but is slightly on the fragile side.

    Andy,
I'm actually using Bachmann's 0-4-2. In tests on the curve it had no problems besides the back truck lifting up. It was due to a peg they placed to keep the trucks from, I assume, swinging too much. Not only did I find it an annoyance any time I picked the engine up, but it didn't look good on the tight turns. So I clipped it ;) Works great on the curves, now!

Boxcab, how'd you know!?! ;) Yeah, it was ME flex. I plan on using regular HO flex buried in ballast for the project, now. The ME ties got clumped up and made a zig-zag pattern in such a tight radius. The eventual ending of the flex track was the ties completely snapping off. Oh well..
I was hoping to run to the hobby store and get some more fine ground cover and flex track today, but my parents wanted me to stay home and study for finals. I'll be going Wednsday afternoon, though.

Yup. That's ME flex track, described perfectly. :(
