I've read several threads on the pitfalls of the Digitrax SDN144PS Sound Decoder with the stock speaker. Some have claimed to get acceptable results in improvement by using a higher OHM speaker.

Where can you get these larger OHM speakers that fit n scale steam tenders? I've gone to Tony's and I'm 1st trying a 25X14 mm 8ohm in place of the stock speaker. I have not been able to locate a higher impedence speaker at the local vendors.

Anybody got some advice? Or better yet an answer?

The larger electronic parts vendors such as Digikey, Mouser, Jameco, etc., all carry 16- and 32-Ohm speakers.

I got the 24 X 14 Mini oval speaker in Saturday. IMHO, it doubled the sound or possible trippled it. It is acceptable but still just a little over the quality of MRC Diesel decoders. You can hear the locos all the way around the layout but none of them need "turned down" to be acceptable. All sound settings are wide open volume.

I'm going to try two ovals on one of the digitrax units and see how that comes out on the AC-12.

I may even go ahead and get a 16 OHM speaker just for grins and see what happens.
