You've seen some of his pictures before in the U.K Northwest thread but I thought it would be good to give him a standalone thread Carnforth last weekend Rare wrong line working of a class 195 through the down platform due to a point failure 156 485 on a Lancaster to Carlisle via the Cumbrian Coast line 68 004 and 68 033 came through on a Nuclear service from Sellafield to Crewe CLS. The 'big cats' could do with a run through the wash-plant 47 815 ' Great Western' was an unexpected arrival towing 86 401 'Mons Meg'. The A.C electric had failed at Rugby 34067 'Tangmere' took over on the steam charter. Brooklyn isn't very tall and struggled with the high railings on the main line platofrm so I had to do a bit of serious cropping but he captured the power of it heading north to Shap Kev
Nice photos! I like that tower(?) on the right in the first photo. Very classy! The 34067 in the last one really looks menacing. Thomas the Tank Engine's Dark Side cousin? "Thomas, I am your father."
Carnforth again this weekend and the boy did well. I was really busy behind the layout and couldn't get out so I let him loose with the camera bag. Saturday 17th. 68 007 'Valiant' with 68 033 'The Poppy' on the Saturday, Sellafield to Crewe, Nuclear Flask working. The guys on the right are the Model railroad dealers who set their stalls up on the platform under the canopy of the the station. The layouts are inside obviously! First excitement of the day was when we arrived to open up. DRS 66 423 had failed on the main line on a short engineering train and was blocking the line to Scotland. Thunderbird 57 307 'Lady Penelope' which still wears its pink nameplates was dispatched to rescue it The Class 390 EMUs were being routed through the loop line at 15 mph to get around it. They are normally doing 110 mph here! The steam loco for today was 34067 'Tangmere'. This loco is out nearly every weekend at the moment because it has air brakes. She's reversing out of Steamtown into the Down loops 57 314 'Conway Castle' passes through the station with an empty coaching stock move And his best catch of the day. Two of the endangered Class 90s, 042 and 044 with 66 594 'NYK Spirit of Kyoto' All his own work Kev
Brooklyn is pretty good at this! I took a close look at the "Lady Penelope" and above the nameplate, there's also the logo of the International Rescue from the show! I like that. I grew up on Gerry Anderson stuff and the Thunderbirds was among my early favorites (I have the complete series on DVD...).
I see a sign in the window of one station building, "Refreshment Room". Is this something like a lounge?
Think Harvey House. Collins English Dictionary: A room in a railway station where food and drink was served. It was common in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and other former British colonies.
I'm going to start a thread on Carnforth soon on the 'International' thread on 'The ready track' Going through Brooklyns pics I saw he had photographed this Anybody know what sort of seaplane it is? And who it belongs to?
It looks a lot like a Grumman G-73 Mallard. It seems that it still has its original radial piston engines. Many have been upgraded with turboprops.
I once heard (and saw!) an Avro Lancaster flying overhead while on a visit to Toronto some years back. Those four Spitfire radial engines make a very distinctive sound that can't be mistaken for anything else. I can imagine what the Mallard sounds like... Apparently a four-unit set of FTs made a racket similar to a four-engine WW2 bomber, especially at a distance.
