Hi Guys, I've been watching this auction all week, but its beyond me at this point...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6054494361&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1. Maybe one of you might be interested. I"m not sure if this is the correct forum for posting this though!
Gotta like the grocery store-like stamped ink prices on the closeups. Could be the origin of these cars was the dear departed Two Guys from Harrison. General problem with the auction is that the photos aren't terribly useful. I don't have a problem with the idea that not every item is listed. But I would want a closeup of at least the ends of the boxes so I can read the labels. Given the resultant lack of information, the $430 price point at which it was when I looked seemed fair. That's $4.30 a car for 1960's era equipment (assuming the count of 100 cars is accurate, that is what I counted from the photo) including mostly Atlas 1st Generation cars. The one closeup photo showed a sample of ten; the most interesting one being an CN Depressed Center Flat Car with the brakewheel still in place.
He's got another hundred up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ATLAS-AHM-N-Scale-MINT-IN-CASE100-Asstd-Traincars_W0QQitemZ6056130803QQ He has some old Athearn and Thomas HO cars, and some Tyco and Gilbert locomotives for the HO crowd. Those Aurora slot cars bring back some memories!
Not 100% sure but I think it is the same picture of the 100 cars in the box for both auctions. Once again, a list or a close-up would attract more bidding IMHO. On the other hand, the first lot went for $495 plus $10 shipping, or just over $5 per car. Not the price point at which I believe these can be "flipped."
The cars are a bit tempting since they brought a rush of memories seeing that stuff in the 70's when I was in junior HS.
