I think this post has been ran before, but I can't find it. So I am posting again.

Question: I want to install a Tsunami sound decoder into my 2 GP-20s. The engines are permantly coupled together. Can I run both units off of one decoder or dooe one unit have to be a dummy unit?

I know that I can install decoders into each one (which i a possibility). I am just trying to save money.

    Thanks

I think that you would be better off using a non sound decoder in the second unit. Soundtraxx just came out with non sound decoder which will work great with the Tsunami.

Has for using one decoder in two locos. You would need to run wires between the two units, with some type of connector so you could seperate them if need be. Also you would need to look to see what the amp draw of the two would be. A Tsunami TSU-1000 is only good for 1 Amp on the motor drive. Two motors might be more than that.

    Decoder

Put a 1000 in one loco and a non sound in the second. The SoundTraxx non sound are designed to be easily used with the sound decoders.
I run a A unit with a 1000 and a B unit with 1000 and program them identical. No problem,
You should be able to do the same with a 1000 and a non sound. The non sound cost about $19.95 from Litchfield Station, a very good DCC supplier.
Just make sure the B unit has all wheel pickup like the A unit.

I have a A/B setup with the sound decoder in the A unit that runs the motor in the A unit and motor in the B unit.
One speaker in the A unit and two speakers in the B unit. The diaphragm between the units hides a six pin connector and the wires.
