About 15 years ago, I found 2 Bachmann 0-8-0's. I have been fooling around with them little by little for what seems like forever. I took both Boiler/Shells and cut them, turned it into one stretched boiler. Took the chassis and modified it to accept a new 5 pole motor with a flywheel. I also had front and rear trucks laying around, so I added those. Matched up a Vandy Tender with it, took it to show Paul at the Train Stop, he said....."boy ..what you have there is a "LONG MIKE", we both got a good laugh, I'll add pictures to this post tonite to show you all. Engine runs very smooth. fatalxsunrider43
And it moves? Most of the old Bachmann 2-8-0s which is probably what you had since they never made a 0-8-0 had gears that would split. if it runs you my good sir are a genius! And it looks good too!
Well then, if these were not 0-8-0's, then they had the front trucks removed before they came to me, at any rate, it moves smoothly, I sit's a little bit high but outside of that, not a bad rework. fatalxsunrider43
Im impressed. Thought of doing something similar but never had a bachmann from that time period and mechanism that didnt have cracked gears. If memory serves me correctly the made a 2-8-0 and 2-8-2 both with the same mechanism. Anybody else have more info? http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/bach280.html
