I will add a working headlight and tail light when I decide to put a decoder in it. The loco will run very slow, has no wobble and is as quiet as anything I own. It was well worth the effort. It also pulls 20 cars on level without an effort now.
Just fantastic-!!! Who would of thought that this was possible, with this locomotive.(Obviously Skipgear) Excellent work-!!!
Beautiful work Tony! The steam chests look much better than the ones that she came with. Were these replacements, and if so which parts did you use?
Here are a couple nude shots so you can see what was done.... The steam chests are original. I drilled out the slot that the piston rod rides in and sleeved it with a piece of brass tubing. Then I cut down the piston rods a bit so they didn't stick out the front of the steam chest when fully forward. The steam chests are capped with some tungsten discs that I had laying around for weight. I found 2 that matched the upper and 2 that matched the lower chest perfectly. They add weight and improve the looks at the same time.
I saw this beautiful model in person (the prepainted version in the second set of pictures) and it's even more impressive in real life. The level of detail and precision in Tony's modifications are incredible!! Wow...and I'm not a steam guy either
VERY nice work! This would make a wonderful factory upgrade, not that that's going to happen A wonderful transformation for a relatively inexpensive little loco. Thanks for sharing/inspiring.
I've seen lots of those locos for 35 years and never imagined one could be made to look that good!!!!! Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!
