As certainly I must remove cars by hand at highest east, non-live interchange what is the MO ? Is it time to construct a cassette or two which plug onto track at rim of ply where sitting cars are left to interchange (disappear)? Otherwise individually lifting off cars today then re-railing them tomorrow is going to be a real tedious experience, no ? How might you handle it ? Mark PS Kooky idea: A ferry slip dock scene. Cars rolled onto ferry which is on a stand with wheels and is rolled across room to slip on other side of the 'bay' ...where MRR continues ....I'm betting I'll hear it's been done...
How much room do you have available? A fiddle yard, cassette, or car ferry. Whatever method works, also "expands" your empire, using the "beyond the layout" concept.
I think a lot is going to depend on what fits well enough with the era/locale of the road, as well as what feels most comfortable for you. The cassette or ferry, I'd fear, would be limited in number of car-lengths, although it probably would be more aesthetically pleasing than the flesh colored crane reaching down...
Thanks. What I meant was to hand roll the cars (only about 5-6 at time) onto the cassette, once they are on the Intrchg track. I have the rails right at the rim of ply now.. Was curious what you guys do with static Intrchg cars.
How about a staging tray that can be put on/off the layout & have a loco move the cars on/off the tray. This system has the trays stored in a drawer but they could also be stored on shelves. Have also been thinking about how to put the trays in an elevator type contraption so even the trays don't have to be handled View attachment 60168
A lot of ideas have been covered in your earlier threads. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?153675-Live-interchange-vs-Static-interchange-Question http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...UM-to-Oct-5-thread-on-Live-Static-Interchages Movable car ferries have been around for 50 years or so. John Armstrong described it in the 1963 version of Track Planning for Realistic Operation and it was an old idea by then.
I am forgetting a lot of things in my 66th year on earth. Yes I did bring this up a while back. I plum forgot. Still interesting seeing other's methods of removing cars from layout. Got me to thinking: Is there a way to, before asking for ideas, open a folder of some kind which lists all our prior questions ? Not the body of them, just titles in alphabetical order so as to scan them fast before asking new question which potentially is a repeat. If title looks familiar we then open up/read body to see if it already has been asked/answered. Or, does this already exist too ! ? I had been taking the drug Ambien for over 2 years for insomnia. I was just barred from it by pharmacy. Reason : It can cause memory loss after a long period. Dr. just switched me to a new type. Maybe my memory will improve now.... Um, what was I just talking about ?
