How well do the newer brass diesels run and pull? I seem to recall that they tend to be hit and miss with the older units.

Can only speak for a 3 unit set of OMI GP60's.
When I ran mine, during the N SCale Collector convention in Denver
they ran smooth and quiet. My SD70Ace and SD45T-2 have never
been run, so I do NOT know how they do.

Thanks gentlemen. I’ve heard that OMI (ajin manufacturing) seems to be the best and it’s good to hear that at least anecdotally they run good as they look. Now if they’d just make some AT&SF Dash 9s….

I am curious. Since brass is such a limited run. What would one be worth of it was #18 of 26?

I'd hazard a guess and say it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
I certainly don't know! Is there a way todetermine the current value of a particular
piece of equipment, regardless of maker?

Eric, those are nice, kind of a steam engine-boxcab combination. How do they run??

    Jason,
Spreader was about $425 when I purchased mine.
Friend of mine just about died when I first showed it to him.
Then just about had a heart attack when I showed him the open wings!

Friend from BMRC some years ago, giving me grief. Because I was willing
to drop close to $450 for the OMI Westinghouse Schnabel car. But yet, I
wasn'twilling to spend $35 each on the MT open auto racks when they first came out.
For me, the Westinghouse car was much more interesting and un usual.
Still the best when it comes to unusua pieces!

Thankfully, I do NOT have much in brass. Just too expensive!
But, I got the pieces I wanted. And at least 3 others I'd love to get:

    ErieTriplex 2-8-8-8-2
    C&O M-1 Turbine
    PRR T-1 4-4-4-4

Have those in 3 rail, but would love 'em in N Scale!

Its kind of hard to tell from your photo but it doesn't look like there's any grab irons on the model, are they molded (etched) on? If so that's a major bummer!

The grab irons are there. They are "molded in" so to speak.
I have trouble getting close up photos with my camera.
Seperate grabs may have been to fine/fragile.
    May have interfered with painting.
May have driven cost up even higher.
I do not know, and am only guessing.
Maybe a touch of white to highlight might work.
Or a real light touch of black behind grabs, to give impression of shadow(s)
    might work also.

I bought the DRGW and SSW units for display only.
Especially when I found out they were extremely limited runs!
However, the GP60's have been weathered and run! And IF I can find a way, or someone, to install DCC decoders in them, I'd do it, so I can run them at shows!

I don't usually like to show my brass in public, but here goes...

They did such a beautiful job on them, I just gotta model some lines west! :tb-wink:

(Sorry the color is a bit off in the first photo)

That is some fantistic looking brass for sure. I never even knew those were produced.

They really did do a beautiful job on them. We had to wait for a few years after they were announced. Thats o.k. with me as I had time to save up for them. I just gotta get them into their proper layout environment somehow...

Take heart. I'm betting we'll see them in plastic soonish!! :tb-wink:

I'd have to get 1-2, even though I don't model the MILW.
They are just a neat locomotive. Although, I'd also like to
see a MILW Bi polar electric available!
