David, Looks great going across my buddy Gary's module. Wish I could have made it by yesterday. To busy this weekend. At least I was able to help set the layout up on Friday.
Well it ran pretty well. The tender found a few spots where the ballast was too high. Once those two spots we fixed, she pulled 64 refers and 11 express cars and several plain box cars. I picked up the wrong box when packing for the show and left my other refers at home. All in all she did pretty good 86 cars plus a PRB Caboose with the cuppola smashboards. The photo of the end of the train didn't fair too well.
She is a real joy. A Hallmark unit that has performed flawlessly for many years. So with shows now over for the rest of the year and then some, I can get back to modeling my layout. Next up for me is building the roundhouse and turntable for the Barstow yard. I am going the cheat a little and use the Walthers modern roundhouse and the built up turntable. I think I can coat the outside of the roundhouse to make it more like ATSF typical, but the turntable will just get detailed and weathered. It will be all built and wired on a 2" thick section of blue foam so it can be easily removed for maintenance and cleaning. I will post photos of the progress in a new thread. Until then, Jerry, thanks for this thread and the motivation it has given me to tackle my layout demons.
I think that will work great on the roundhouse walls. Look forward to following your progress too! Thanks again for the dedication....you couldn't have picked a better locomotive.
Today I started adding more 'tuffs' to Glen Frazer, on the left side of the tracks. There will be a road on the left side of the 'tuffs'.
The area I am working on is the trees/brush in the middle of this photo. You can see the road on the left side of the greenery. Does anyone make a decal for the road lines? Or should I just get a white sharpie and go for it?
I got some 1/32 inch graphic tape made by Chartpak, Leeds, Massachusetts, in both white and yellow. I have not yet used it as I had completed the roads I was working on at the time using custom made decals, but I think this tape should work well. I got this tape from suppliesnet.com and you can enter the part numbers BGCP3111 for yellow and BG3110M for white. The yellow is on sale for $2.82 for 648 inches or 54 feet and the white is on sale for $3.36 for the same 648 inches.
JD, On my old layout, I used dry transfer lines. White & yellow. Got them at the LHS. They come in all different sizes & easy to do.
Glad to see you're back working on the layout again. While I haven't got that far yet, I've thought about using automobile pinstriping tape for lines. Dave.
Once again sitting here in admiration of your work. Nice touch with the Santa Fe MOW trucks sitting there. Just like I remember from years past. Your layout certainly does resemble the photo.
