Darren, that squiggly line up the side of the mountain in the right hand photo of the scenery post is the railroad, right??
Actually, it's the slightly curved line on the right going through the tunnels. The Railroad takes more of a direct route straight up. The "squiggly line" is the foot path.
Enough of Switzerland, let's move on to Milano, Italy... [ March 27, 2006, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: Stourbridge Lion ]
Great pictures Darren but you are still in the southern Swiss canton of Ticino. The first three were possibly taken at Melide (where the Motorway runs parallel to the railway on a causeway across Lake Lugano) and your shot of the rail complex was taken in Chiasso on the Swiss/Italian border. Please don't think I am being critical but I thought you would like to keep your records accurate John.
I love the two-tone grey Swiss paint scheme on the passenger trains. Those Eurofima coaches are beautiful, and a very smooth ride. We rode one from Luxembourg to Brussels. They seem so much more spacious than UK ones, pity we have a more restricted loading gauge. Still using the EWII baggage cars, I notice. There is a name for those 'dome' cars, I think, but cannot remember what they call them, John will know

The middle two shots are of the same train and I can create a short MPEG of the whole train in a few days.
BTW: There are more images of all this in my RailImages gallery. These have just been some of the highlights. The subfolder these are all stored in is titled European Vacation 2004 and I still adding more images into it every few days until I don't find any more Railfan shots within the vacation video of the entire trip we took.
Did any of you happen to go to Zug, or see an Intoro Firebird one-man helicopter being tested around there? I did some engineering design on it, and designed the Pilot Flight Trainer to go with it. It is to be used for mountain rescue and fire watch missions.

We now leave ROME for Florance, Italy... [ March 27, 2006, 01:07 PM: Message edited by: Stourbridge Lion ]
How come I didn't see a single train on my visit to Florence? Such a beautiful city, it didn't really matter Both those freight cars are ubiquitous across europe. The Eaos open (gon), and the very long covered hopper. (The top doors are hinged and pivot to the sides for loading).
Alan, I'm glad you explained that curious looking thingee in the third photo. I was going to ask Darren about it, but you have saved him the embarassment of having to say nothing while raising his palms to the heavens. Darren, I hope you realize I'm putting you on Darren, you certainly are posting great photos. You and (I assume) your wife appeared to have a great tour of Europe. Well done!
Yes, my wife and I had a blast and still today is hard to believe we did everything in such a short period of time. Heck, this trip had nothing to do with Railfanning, there are just shots I took out of the bus window as we went from place to place and just happen to catch all this in between.
