Was chatting on Yahoo Messenger this am with Alan Curtis.Alan came up with the idea of a small NARA logo (about the size of reporting marks for your scale) to be used on NARA members locos. Whatcha think? Also from my feeble mind ,how about a boxcar? Or some other piece of rolling stock? This would be lettered for NARA and most likely be a per diem car. This would/could be done in several eras to cover all members. Again Whatcha think? By the way neither of these would be a requirement for membership.
i got a bunch of cabeese and boxcars that are just getting started with paint jobs. I'l love to add a few to them. haven't started on anyengines.
It was Matt who thought about it, as he would like a NARA logo on his HO Montana Central locos. It would be good to have the logo on all NARA member roads equipment
I was thinking about that, and tried to check back on our conversation from this am.I could not find any archived messages on Yahoo. My apologies to Matt for this snafu (if you don't know what that means email me cause Charlie would have a heartattack if I posted it here )
As for freight cars, any standard color, or do we just put the NARA logo on? I've got several 50-foot boxcars without decals (one red, two blue).
Have not even concidered a colour yet.Still waiting to see if the idea flys with all members It looks real good so far. [ 20. January 2003, 03:37: Message edited by: Catt ]
Here is one idea that immediately came to mind, transitional decals. Since all NARA members model different era's , different style decals would have been used. (Of course freelancers could use any) Here is an example of transitional decals: Let me know what you think! Russ
One idea that comes to mind is what Allen McClelland and Tony Koester did when they created their combined system, with the Virginia Midland - they came up with a common paint scheme, individualized by color for each railroad. Now, that would be a bit harder for us, because there are so many different railroads. However, it could be done with freight cars - say, a specific type of boxcar that was financed by NARA, similar in concept to the Railbox cars of the 70s. We could put the NARA logo on the left side of the boxcar door, and the individual railroad logo on the right, or something like that. This would allow each railroad to have its own engine colors, yet tie into the larger system. On a related note, has anyone tried to make a NARA system map, showing each of the affiliated railroads? I would volunteer to try it, if each NARA member would contact me; or better, start another post so everyone could see the system. Pat
Sounds like a plan to me from the peanut gallery! being I'm kinda not exactly online as of yet (using a cousins computer) but it sure does sound good for the NARA members! How 'bout some reporting marks for rolling stock as well????????
I'm putting my vote in for Catt's "Red Diamond" design, it lok very real and would fit better than all white or all black.
