Triplex, I was having a little fun in the SP Fallen Flags thread and posted some info on the AC-9. If you're interested you can see a little more on the subject here: http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/104/t/000166.html and scroll down a little.
My favorites: SD40/SD40-2 and all modern diesels Don't like: Alcos E and F engines (I'm young, never had the appreciation for these engines. They don't have the muscular look of current diesels.)
The most popular locomotive, known THE WHOLE WORLD ROUND, By Parent and child alike is, he's British, he's Truely Blue, he's........Drumroll! Hehehehehehehe! Now how does THAT take the wind out of the Prototype Movement???
for diesels one look at my PAs in warbonnet and I knew I was in love on my steam side a BIG BOY (with a string of ice reefers) would set my heart a thumpen I need to get out more often
yep love them Phase 1 F3 man after my own heart. yep love them diesels! [ June 22, 2005, 04:55 AM: Message edited by: STEVE Q ]
The SD 40's have to be here at he top in almost any paintscheme. I'd have to say the BN U30's would be up there as well. I'm a big fan of big modern power, so the SD70/90's, the new SD70's with the new nose (the ACe's?). I can't wait to see those in MRL blue ! The AC4400's and the "Draper Taper" units from CN and CP. The little guys are the SW 12/1500's and the MP 15's. Nothing looks cooler than a couple of switcher's together with those big windows. As far as steam, the big Pacifics and of course the cab forwards and big boys. My favorite ugly duckling is the ML4000 KM (yep they weren't good for anything, but they looked cool). Actually, I'd be hard pressed to say I don't like any engine. I'm just a fan of railroads and about anything with a cool paintjob does it for me .
Diesels: SD40-2, favorite, and many still soldier on, while many of their younger EMD and GE brothers and sisters head to the scrapyard... SD40/45T-2. The Tunnel motor. 'Nuff said. Make mine Aspen Gold and black, please! C415--so wierd, it's cool. SP&S for me! E5, stainless fluted sides, how can you be wrong? CB&Q made them classy... F units, all types, all models, real utilitarian beasts. Freight, passenger, helper service; covered wagons served in many roles until they were retired. Rio Grande, any scheme, GN EB, NP NCL, BN, WP silver, ATSF Warbonnet/Bluebonnet... too many to name! Alco PA-1. Can any passenger loco look so sexy with its curves, and a powerful alco heartbeat? Rio Grande for me, but the Warbonnet ranks high too! Lastly, anything clean....
C 30-7s and U 30-Cs. I love how all that black smoke blows out the exhaust stack. Also, the thunderous sound of their prime mover! SD-9s for the sound of their 567 prime movers which were readily distinguishable from the 645 prime mover of later EMD units.
Keep 'em coming! Remember, your list can be any length you want, but please try to make an order to it.
Diesel Dash 8-40CW in Santa Fe Warbonnet Any F Unit in the same Livery HighSpeed Electric ICE2 ( Got it) ICE-Tilt (Dont have But I want it( Shinkansen Series 500 (Got it) Thayls TGV( Dont have but want) Shinkansen Series 700 ( Dont have) Shinkansen E1 Max (Dont have) Eurostar ( Want it really Badly)
Diesel. my best running is a GP7. It is also my oldest engine Steam. My dream, the SP cab forward. the only steam I got to ride in.
I like almost all locomotives, from various countries and eras I like variety! One particular diesel I like a lot which I don't think has so far been mentioned is the GMD1, I think they look superb
ANYTHING in a WAR BONNETT !!! I must admit I've got a growing fancy for wide "comfort" cabs and the wide radiators of the dash 7s, 8s, and 9s. [ July 19, 2005, 01:02 AM: Message edited by: BALOU LINE ]

In some ways a very easy question, in other ways an extremely tough question. Favorite steam: Anything vintage C&O with the flying pumps, low headlights, etc. Favorite diesels: C&O F7's, E8's, GP7's, from 1948 through '56 paint schemes. Favorite non C&O steam: Tie: NYC or Pennsy Favorite non C&O diesel: New York, New Haven, and Hartford Favorite electics: Tie: New Haven and Virginian All U.S.engines to me are all beautiful. Even the classic uglies to me are a thing of beauty. I was never a fan of European loco's.
