I'm also a big WWII buff. I've got lots of books, movies and models, most are unread, unwatched and unbuilt:tb-biggrin: I also fiddle with RC planes and flight sims.
My other hobbies include anything RC. I have raced electric RC off-road for more than 20 years and now because of the decline in electric racing around the area run this: I made a pretty good living at it for a while by painting the bodies for other racers and for manufactures. My bodies are currently on the box art of 3 Team Losi kit boxes (XXXCR, XXX-Tcr, and the JRSXR), Joel Johnsons Kyosho cars and adds, and 4 Sportwerks kit boxes. My paint jobs were the basis for two of the Sportwerks Ready to Run bodies that come pre printed in the box. I have a few concourse trophies from various world championships. Links to the Losi cars pictures - Losi: XXX-CR Competition 2WD Buggy Kit: Losi (LOSA0032) Losi: XXX-T CR Racing Truck Kit: Losi (LOSK0077) I have been flying electric 3d planes for about 2 years now and am playing with electric heli's also but crashes are still more common that succesful flights with the heli's. The planes are my relaxing hobby, the cars are for the competition, heli's are just to prove I can, and the model railroading is for the artistic outlet and something that my 3 year old and I can hang out at the house and do together.
As of late....I really do not have other active hobbies besides model railroading and railfanning on occasion. I used to play allot of First Person Shooter games online I used to play Paintball quite a bit While I still have some interest in the above, time and money is not available and with that interest has fallen off. These days my interests are Model Railroading Prototype railroads cars What I do is: go to work go to college HOMEWORK!!!!!! waste time on the Internet sometime watch trains in and around Saint Paul MN work on my layout about once a month or less....no time. Future hobbies once college is done (someday) 1. Model Railroading 2. Photography (trains, model railraoding, cars, nature, cities) 3. Cars (planning on selling Dodge Charger R/T for Dodge Charger SRT8 and suping it up more) (Wife will have a Mustang in future) Drive for fun on local tracks (Brainerd MN) 4. Computers - still tinker and have a robust in house network and servers. There is never a shortage of things to spend money on
People ask me that all the time.:tb-biggrin: Actually, I work 24/7/365 most of the time. I'm just a high energy person. :tb-biggrin: I work hard, and play hard.
Wow. Wonder what hobbies Craig has time for now..... I've taken up diving as the other major hobby since I moved to Okinawa in 2006. Underwater photography is a challenge that I'm still learning. I'm in the water almost ever weekend that doesn't have a typhoon screwing up the visibility. Brian That's me floating above a friendly cuddle fish.
If Lanscaping and yard work are considered a hobby and not a chore, then that's what takes most of my extra time and money. Next time I'm going for a smaller lot!
Hmm.. let's see.. my hobbies are typically things that involve building... Pete, now I know why your layout looks so great! Myself, into birds, I have 2 on the endangered species list, Greenwing Macaw and a Blue & Gold Macaw. Trying to talk the wife into getting a Hyacinth Macaw without much luck. Tae Kwon Do, for 3 years (red recommended) Reading (magazines) MRR, Popular Science/Mechanics Driving my cars, which is really getting expensive.
I was into Italian exotics for 20 years, but it just got too expensive to insure them, let alone repair them. Alfa Guillietta, Dino 246, Lambo Espada, Maserati Ghibli. My Dodge Magnum R/T reminds me a lot of the Ghibli--same weight, same horsepower, but better handling, and a much better car altogether.
What Other Hobbies Auto motive Mods(Tuners) Computer Mods/Repair My most expensive hobby Women:tb-biggrin:
Most of my other hobbies take up more time than model railroading, at least for now while I'm caught in design woes. Regardless, my main hobby outside trains and work is breeding standard bred poultry, all manner of chicken, ducks, geese, and even some pigeons now. I'm also a 200+ average bowler and enjoy doing leagues and tournaments, as well as an avid poker player (but with the cards I generally play the free leagues in the area, saves more money for trains that way!) I'm also a pretty big sports fan and try to follow what I can. When I was in school and college, and for a little while afterwards playing brass (mostly trombone) was a big thing for me but ran out of groups to play with that were still a challenge. If there's any free time after that it's usually best used by relaxing and playing some video games, it's kinda my generations thing.
Live steam! Coal smoke is addictive! Train watching. Visiting all BBQ places in my city. Collecting terrible movies (to qualify a movie has to have been intended to be good). Computer 3D modeling.
I got re-involved in my local tourist railroad, and have put in so many hours and so much work that I am their unofficial "track foreman". I guess I get enough running an engine at my real job, so muscling 200 pound ties and pounding spikes is where I get my enjoyment. Problem is, I haven't touched my layout since March 2007.
My main hobby other than model railroading is gardening. I do less and less each year because of 4 chronic illnesses. My large perennial bed had to be abandoned 3 years ago; most of the plants were happily received by a daughter, the only one of our five grown children who has a green thumb. Now, indoor gardening, growing under lights, is my claim to horticulture fame by growing several varieties of houseplants including Bonsai. Other hobbies are photography; classical music including playing a pipe organ; playing with two local grandchildren; working with my grandson, 7, on my new layout; travel; serving as a volunteer advocate for the disabled and elderly; and steady visits to this doctor and that specialist along with swallowing 18 pills a day. I'm retired (I had to retire early because of health issues) but not retiring. I'm also a freelance writer, which is not a hobby. Oh yes, being a best buddy for my wife of 50 years.

Hmmm... let's see. Besides trains, listening to music (all kinds but esp. classical, big band, 60's 70's 80's pop), reading (mysteries, history, post-apocalyptic fiction, fantasy), coffee! I am also a docent at our county natural history museum.
Things besides N scale: - Sprint Car racing - Building oval track, service vehicles, and big rig models from the '70s - Classic Rock movies and documentaries - Cooking - Watching NASCAR - More Sprint Car racing !!!
Wow… ok since I am A.D.D. I have a few, but in no particular order… Sailing Repairing electronics Auto repair (buy junk, fix junk(no longer junk), sell (fixed) junk, buy more junk… the cycle repeats. Motorcycle riding Motorcycle restorations (or rustorations) Video games Arduino and raspberry pi projects R/C crawlers and boats. ok… that doesn’t cover it all but most of what makes me tick…
