Good morning from sunny and cold Northeast Ohio! Built an Athearn ACF 2970CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. The NP purchased several hundred for cement service, but they migrated into Bentonite Clay loading (Drilling Mud & Kitty Litter) and silica sand for glass manufacturing. I don't know how many of this car that I painted over the years. I would finish one and put it on the hobby shop layout, and it would get sold, then I did more and more and the same thing happened. Next is an Intermountain 40'PS1 Boxcar kit with a 7' Door, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and lettered with Decals from the Ann Arbor Historical Society. The Packers Football consists of 3 overlapping decals. The GBW acquired 42 ex New Haven boxcars in 1962 after their 15 year lease expired. A lot of other railroads got some of these cars like the ACY etc. Used for hauling paper products via the Ann Arbor to points east. Pair of Kato SD45's that I painted for the PC and are hauling a mixed consist of Covered Hoppers lettered for the NYC, PRR and PC. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Here are 3 items that I would bet are not known of, by many. I purchased these from a Tulsa, OK shop probably 20 years ago. Excuse the method I used to photograph but they show up quite well and I wanted to show the weight of each car. The bottom of the cars have no identifying mfg. marks but my guess is they were IM cars. Hope you get a chuckle..........................
One of my pics from 2006: Olde meets New It will be a while before I post pics of the current layout as it is 'under construction' and I am leaning toward only posting more serious less / whimsicle images.
Carl, did you buy the cars from Challenger N Scale in South Tulsa? I believe Richard Fisher, store owner, commissioned them, don't remember who the manufacturer is but I can find out. Will give them a call later today when they open. Joe
Joe, Yes that is the shop, been a while since I was there but I think they are in the same place. Joe, I appreciate the offer to call them but not necessary. BTW, did you possibly visit or take part in the OKC December train shows around 2000. I was in the N scale layout 5 or 6 consecutive years. I have a module that was " best Module" one year. Really pumped me up but long under control. Since my 2nd heart attack in 2005 my traveling with modules is curtailed. Miss it ! ! Carl
Carl, I have been to the OKC train show only a couple of years back around late 90's early 2000's. I was with the NEONS group of guys. They always have a large layout set up for the train shows that they attend. Joe
Yes Joe, I remember the NEONS, they always have a 1st class layout. As I recall pretty much a fun loving group.
Yes Carl I like the NEONS because they are a lot of fun and very knowledgeable about N scale layout building. I try to go to their monthly meetings every once in awhile to keep up with what is going on in the future. Have a few photos of the layout in the store but for some reason my phone is not working right and I can't post them at this time, sorry. Joe
The address of Challenger N Scale has been removed due to this post is violating the Retailer's Policy https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/policy-trainboard-posts-about-retailers.40760/ Thanks, The Staff
It has been over 10 years since I last posted. Getting kids into college, a family member's health issues, repairing damage to our home, and a bout of depression have kept me from the workbench and the layout. I have slowly cleaning the layout off and assessing damage. These were the first photos I took on the first section more or less cleared, but not totally cleaned.
