I have finally started work on my SW1. As of right now, I have the walkway and shell sitting in a jar full of rubbing alcohol, all of the windows have been removed and I have two sets of decals ready to go. Hopefully it will be painted in an hour or two
bremner, One of the things I did try a few years back was painting some rolling stock (not an engine) which I quickly gave up on. What I am saying is, you guys who can do that sort of thing are incredibly patient. Am looking forward to seeing the results. By the by, which SW1 Switcher model do you have? What is your impression of it?
How did you get the windows out? I've heard that's a problem. Also did you get the headlight lenses out? Thanks!
Patience comes easy when you have 4 kids...modeling relaxes me. There is only one N Scale SW1 made, by Arnold. I have only ran it a little bit, but it was rather smooth. About 25 years ago I painted an Arnold S2 into Southern Pacific tiger stripe, and this loco is a lot nicer, runs smoother and is a lot more modern in design. I plan to stripe her on Monday night.
I got the windows out with a hobby knife and I have not removed the lenses.....I was going to scrape the paint off...
Don't wait too long, it looks like Arnold is not going to be making more American locos....they did a factory fire sale last year.
Thanks for the heads up but it is going to have to wait. I just bought a Bachmann K4 Pacific this evening so I don't think my wife would like me handing out any more until next pay
Yes, the PE leased all of their EMD and Baldwin locos from the SP, and on a handful, had a sign painter reletter them by hand....
If you go direct onto the Hornby website --- no mention of either the U28 or the SW1.... is that a confirmation or am I missing something? https://www.hornby.com/us-en/ge-u25c-l-n-1500-dcc-ready.html I still have a couple of my resin shells left if nothing else works. I did get to watch one of those Hornby SW1's run on the T-trak modules down to Altoona this year. I was very impressed with how well it ran.
The wonderful thing about Tiggers Is Tiggers are wonderful things Their tops are made out of rubber Their bottoms are made out of springs Theyre bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers Is Im the only one, Im the only one! Modelling the SP, I have had to decal more than a few tiger stripes in my time. Never understood why SP later painted all their engines primer grey...
I noticed that Arnold said they were doing some prototype specific details on their locos. Did you start with a particular version that was closer to your prototype? If so, which one? I need to pick one of these up before they're gone. I can't believe they're throwing in the towel so fast on North American N scale. I have two of their Northern Pacific U25Cs. They're very nice.
