Track plan for N scale switching layout (sww)

Here is a track plan for my 36x80 HCD N scale layout. My goal in building the layout is to get practice in designing and operating small switching layouts. I have two questions: 1-how to improve the utility of the locomotive pocket; 2-how to add another siding in the middle of the layout. I'll try to link to this diagram from the Unitrack forum and explain my questions in a bit more detail.
