Do you have any locos and rolling stock that you are going to run yet. How big will your layout be. I've been playing with a small layout for my GM&O. I run mostly C&O/B&O, U.P. Chessie and CSX on my current four by nine layout. But I wanted a small layout about three by five in size just to have a lot of scenery and run GM&O.
Look into using one spur as a staging track. If you're like most of us you'll be buying more cars than your layout can handle. The staging track should act like a tray to roll cars off/on. The advantage is the cars don't have to be handled much.
