This picture is an interesting study. Obviously the squirrel is not too intimidated by the passing train. One would have to wonder is the squirrel curious ? fascinated ? or just accustomed to such events as a passing train. If he is aware of his surroundings then he would know he can escape. Perhaps he knows if he lays shells with nuts inside on the rail that the train can do his work of extracing the nut for him. If that's the case, that's one smart squirrel. Everyone I have shown this pic to is quite amused.
