Looks to still be in tender service, but it's hard to tell if all the gear for fuel transfer is still installed.
The only fuel tenders still useable have yellow piping down by the walkway running the length of the tender. The EPA made the BNSF install a system to keep fuel from spilling out on the ground from the tender. For now, in the PRB, no tenders are being used as such. With most all of the tenderized SD40-2s being returned to lessor and most SD60-Ms not having the necessary equipment, they are used as fuel transport cars. The first 39 MACs in the 9800 number series are tenderized, but they just couldn't cut it in helper service. They tried to use just two MACs in helper service, but the tonnage was just too great for two MACs and the tenders were showing signs of stress on the frames.
