Bridge over the Rio Panuco

Old railroad bridge dating back to around 1900-1910 heading south from Tampico over the Panuco River into Veracruz. Line was only completed about another 50 miles farther. Line abandoned and rails lifted in the 1990's.

Wow. There's a whole bunch of money spent. What was the draw, which lead them to construct this line?

Sure is an odd bridge with the unique truss spans nearest the camera. Those angles are sure odd.

The bridge was originally built as part of what should have been a Mexico City - Tuxpan - Tampico direct route. Construction of the line ceased during the revolution. The idea was revived briefly in the 50's, but never completed.

Yeah, those two spans are really different. A close look at the bridge makes me think that they might have been intended as a swing section. Looks like a turntable section under there, but there's no machinery to operate it. They'd also be lacking horizontal beams at the top between those two sections. But I´m just guessing at that.

Ed- Thanks for the PM. Interesting archaeology. Always fascinating to see something so massive, left to the ages. Is the bridge a straight shot across? That left end span almost looks as though it leads into a curve?

Straight shot. In fact, on the north (far) side of the river there are several deck girder spans over some swampy land until the bridge reaches the real riverbank.
