Side view of my little substation that'll sit on the hillside just above the tracks. Not an exact replica of the substation that exists at East Portal but close enough based on the distant pics I had available. I used parts of an old Model Power kit but the GMM chainlink fence really makes the scene complete

After 6 months (on & off) have finally got the East Portal to a stage where I am happy with it & can get started on my surrounding scenery. I still have a few details to add, but will leave them til later so that I'm not constantly reattaching them

Elevated view of the trees I've planted so far + completed rock castings in place along with some basic ground cover. I'm trying to refer as much as possible to proto pics to get my colours as close as possible

Portal starting to take shape & colour. I airbrushed 2 x base coats of Floquil CN Grey and then sponged on various grey / earth mixed tones of Vallejo paints. Some chalks are beginnning to give me that concrete texture

I used Slaters (UK brand) of lettering but getting the "Moffat Tunnel" level and centred was a lot harder than I'd expected

This pic taken about a week or so back from the rear of the module. The entire section is removable from my layout so I can work on it, but once installed permanently you won't be able to view it from this angle. Note the "blackout tube" so no light appears at the end of the tunnel! I didn't have room to model the discharge towers & snow shed out the back, but hopefully I can capture the feel anyway

I plonked down a coupla structures to see how things will come together. Even in N, selective compression is a good friend! You can see part of my Royal Gorge layout section behind the East Portal diorama. Only the front main is live & wired, siding & MOW shed spur track are dummies for effect only.
