A shame the shell is not good. The chassis appears to be fairly decent. BTW- The seller missed target another way. It is not an RS1, it's an FA. That Beans box car is worth almost as much as the 227, ha ha.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Post...rs-Lot-of-3-different-variations/121952125589 "Shows some wear." Really. If it were not for the fact they appear to be complete, the word 'thrashed' comes into mind.
I stared at it a while, but nothing appeared in a photo which justifies the price. It does seem to be in decent shape, but still at least $300.00 too much any way you try to stretch it.
http://www.tandem-associates.com/lionel/lionel_trains_600_diesel.htm Shows the variations..including grey frame and yellow end rails...thashed is right. Pickup stop broken, lots of frame and end rust, gonna need a glass bead blasting and repaint, then the variations aren't original anymore. Oddly, the rollers show little or no wear. Cab roof broken pretty good above the headlight on the all black frame unit. Wonder why the screwdriver is out? Least the seller could have done is take the shells off and wash them in soapy water with a toothbrush to make them more presentable. For overall condition, max hundred delivered, IF one has to have three 600 MKT's. Notice these are from another auction. So he buys to flip and not clean. Interesting business model. Opinion.
Just looking at these again, after following your link. One must hope they have the appropriate innards as well. Looks to me the black chassis unit has a non-operating coupler. Is this appropriate?
Maybe..maybe naught. I am suspecting that power truck has been swapped with an MPC unit....see how in the side view of all three, where you can see not operating arm, the truck hangs funny in the front? Like the spring and clip aren't there. The sides of the actual motor block differ from the other two..and the dirt, rust, mung on the rear non-powered truck is not present at all on the front (suspect) truck.
I've got to agree. That is a replacement effort of some sort. Which makes their asking price even more out of line.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-19...678930?hash=item4d423b85d2:g:IncAAOSwkNZUlJov except...I think it's MTH. http://mthtrains.com/news/052 MTH even calls the set "coal train". Lionel versions, green, mojave, and dark grey...but they had reverse lockout levers sticking through the slot in the side of the hood. Here is one more realistic in price: http://www.willowriverantiques.com/store/p341/Lionel_318_Gray_loco!.html I think something smells funny. Opinion.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...896716?hash=item5d63c6450c:g:6C8AAOSw~oFXD81C Umm. No. Box is just about worthless, with that water damage. Contents aren't worth even one third the asking. Shipping cost exceeds real value.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...283257?hash=item1eae89c4b9:g:G9wAAOSwKtVWwi9I At least there are some interesting items included. The 3530 has a screw hole crack. The boxes not really anything special. That search light seems to be missing it's car. Other stuff? Still, much better than we usually see offered, yet not at that price.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-195...633769?hash=item3ac1916269:g:XcAAAOSwKfVXD8Er At least this one was not found in a basement sump. Much better than usual. But am still not seeing the asking price.
Yes, absolutely. Cheap Scout plastic clamshell motor block, non-repairable, you can tell by slot on top and the underneath shot. Did you notice no tender anywhere? Nor power pack? And the small pile of track certainly does not appear to be a circle. Opinion.
True on all accounts, except that's a 746. Sorta hard to come by. 1957-58 with tender short stripe and 746W on side. Most go for just under to just over a grand if in any kind of condition. Hard to tell on this one.
1666 was pre-war, carried over for a bit. Had to repair some, and there are NO parts. That one is apparently a 1947 (last year) with silver handrails and stamped steel pilot truck frame. Contacts broken off...yes...sliders on loco both gone, fibre plate broken out at the back..says parts included, but bets are it's just the sliders and not the fibre plate, which is a SOB to change. Bad E-unit it says....the works and parts to locate, and only two cars and a caboose) and who needs another two dome tanker?) makes me think MAYBE a hundred bucks delivered. But I don't need one. Last one of these a buddy bought (set with 1666) a couple of Christmases ago was fifty bucks total. Opinion.
Yup. Looks like one straight section. Believe there should be at least four? Also noted that only the loco and yellow hopper were pictured, not the rest, which had me wondering.
When they stated the contacts were broken off, but contacts were included, I was left wondering if they meant replacement parts or the broken away pieces.
OK. I was thinking they were more on the order of $800 range. Maybe I'm a bit behind times on this one. But was also considering other includes and noting missing items, wondering what works or not, etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-O27-...758452?hash=item28151aa0b4:g:h5oAAOSwJQdW~VNo Junk. Skirts broken. Paint a mess. Pop the two horns out and toss the rest. Value= None.
