Small simple inexpensive buildings of any kind for entry level modelers. Every summer I hold model railroad camp for kids and need a building for them to assemble to put on their T-Track module. I need something to show them simple kit building skills. I end up making my own for them but it is a hassle.
Back in the 70's (or maybe it was the 80's) Atlas announced they were going to do their HO scale lumber yard in N scale. I'm still waiting.
Pretty much all the HO scale kits Walthers has done, with an emphasis on the Grain Elevator series and the Brewery. The Grain series is really a no brainer for N scale.
There is more than the grain industries from Walthers that would be a no brainer in N scale. I'm thinking the iron ore industry, the Hullet /ore unloaders and such . Randy
The Ethanol building set for sure; 1980s-2000's gas stations/convenience stores; and "southern" style buildings. Most DPM stuff if upper mid-west or Northeast, and too tall and too brick. There are some laser cut versions that are ok for houses, but building small southern towns requires too much kit bashing.
I went to that when I was 7! I got a truck one of those buildings and a rio grande boxcar, my brother got a B&O boxcar a truck and another one of those buildings. That was my first n scale items. Thank you for doing that.
Yeah, #2852 Lumber Yard (the Hillside Lumber and Millwork Company). Actually introduced in the red flyer in February, 1968. That was THE first Atlas building I wanted and it was never made. I even wrote to Atlas in April, 1973 (when they were still advertising it) to ask about it and they replied they had the #2883 Lumber Mill. Some solace. It wasn't even the same type of structure. I bought one anyway. I'd still love to have one. Doug
Rich S., that's a really neat scene you have there with the Vulcan building. EDIT; Oops, or isn't that yours? Doug
Yeah I know about the chip trailer on shapeways. However, I think $36 is WAY TOO HIGH to pay for the trailer. Ryan
For many... many years the Vulcan Manufacturing building was shown as retired by Walthers. Unbuilt kits were selling on eBay for $50++ bucks... I know because often a bidder up to $40. I ended up buying a poorly built one without the canopy for about $20. About a year latter... l accidentally found one from a modeler departing N scale... paid $30. Of course... Walters unretired the kit at $30 MSRP... about $25 discounted. They did the same with many other such retired kits... many eBayers are upside-down on those model kit purchases... count me in on that bad 'investment'... lol... Sent from my SM-G530T using Tapatalk
The "teacher" (Russell) and the "student" (Manitobamodeler24)...is one of the coolest things I've read in a while! It must feel great to introduce someone else to the hobby and years later, still enjoying it.
I would like to see simultaneous release in n-scale of the buildings that many companies offer in HO scale. Walthers is one example of such; some of their items never come in n-scale.
Agreed... there are several companies which focus on HO first and foremost... but their models would be very welcomed in N scale. I'm guessing that they don't feel there is enough support to do tooling in another scale and are not able to or willing to wait for a return on investment. It is the will to support an effort to build the clientele which may be missing since many of these companies are far more devoted to HO than any other scale. Sent from my SM-G530T using Tapatalk
