    Greetings N Scalers!

Although manufacturers have gotten a lot better at providing a selection on quality buildings in N scale, I for one find myself either kit-bashing something or scratch building a particular building type for my railroad. I wanted to hear from you on this subject. If you could talk to a representative at Walthers, Atlas, DPM, etc., what type of buildings would you like to see for sell?

    Thanks for your feedback!

Concrete Tilt Wall warehouses. Nu Line had one model for a while, and in HO there is a model with more outside vertical ribs. Would seem like a simple enough injection mold product to make....and the modular nature could allow lots of kit bashing by the mfg or us.

I would look at every single HO scale building made... which has not been made in N scale... as a beginning.
Other than that... I feel that kit-bashing and scratch building structures are the best ways to make a layout unique.
If you are really good at kit-bashing... then your layout will have more variety and the story behind the kit-bashes more interesting.
I'm one of those who really liked the DPM modular and Walthers Cornerstone modular offerings.

Started thinking about this, and I realized there is or has been quite a decent amount available. Mine would be a specific MILW depot model, so potential for something more narrowly focused appearing would limit possibility it might ever really happen.

I would love to see more kits for modern buildings. Glass walls, mirrored, multi story. I have a couple custom ones.

    Rick,

Do you recall those old MR articles on building skyscrapers out of plexiglass, using tape and styrene for the gaps between floors? Never did one, but looked easy.

I would also appreciate it if Walthers would release their Ethanol Series of buildings in N Scale.

I would build some FreemoN modules around these, but Walthers doesn't get the fact that N Scalers are more likely to have room to fit an industry like this.

The idea for the HO Scale buildings that haven't been built in N Scale and the Concrete Tilt Warehouse walls are both great ideas that I agree with and would close the gap in N Scale for desired buildings in my world.

Speaking of which I email Summit recently about the rumor on building a Walmart and their reply was that the items that would be purchased wasn't worth their expense. I was kind of surprised. Along with sad

Jeff, no, never saw that article. After purchasing the custom built buildings, I realized how "easy" they would be. (Of course, the design skill is still required)

LARGE corrugated or plate steel grain bins. Rix Products ones are OK for a farm scene, but we need big ones for grain elevator complexes. And I'm happy to see Walthers coming out with the newer tract style house kits. We could use more of these 60's-70's suburban house models. Tri-levels, raised ranches, etc.

I'd like to see Walthers create a over head crane kit that fits the Vulcan Mfg. canopy section.

Morton by chance Ken? If so, there are rumblings about a guy making a 3-D printed one on Shapeways.

I'll second that. Sure would be nice to see more modern design buildings

Does Shapeway have a Thread for desired items on here? If not why not?

I'm surprised Walthers hasn't done a separate a larger canopy with a crane as a kit.

Shapeways has to improve their quality before I'd buy a whole building from them. I look forward to the day they are as clean as injection molded plastic.

I for one would like to see more structures related to the timber/lumber industry. The one that comes to mind most is the chip loader that Walthers produces in HO for the Mountain Lumber co kit.

A chip trailer or 2 would also be a welcome addition in N scale.

That would be one daydream- Alder/Ashford/Eatonville/Elbe/Mineral/Morton. Or really going nutz, Kapowsin with it's attached freight house. Also Standard Class E&F.
