Besides the fact that their dog probably dug it up in the backyard, I guess it could pass for "mint". You could move the decimal over two places and I don't think it'd be worth it. Mike
Wow. We all need to start picking these up at swap meets, then flip for ten times or more their actual value.
These items of N scale's morbid past should be banished from earth. They are a stigma that keeps potential hobbyist away. They do not do anything to help move the hobby forward or help N scale's reputation. I prefer to not even give this stuff away. The damage it would do for the recipient is to drive them away from the hobby... not just N scale.
I agree and have stated this in the past, in this and other topics. Someone new seeing such prices and then acquiring such items could quickly be lost to another scale or even the hobby.
Click on his other listings. Geez. Of course it's cheap..those are Canadian Dollars, right? Doesn't belong here, but one example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...308046?hash=item419a66e20e:g:FnMAAOSwstxVdRu2 Beat. 665 type boiler front. Hundred tops, not 345. Opinion.
This has probably been brought up before and probably is less humorous when considering the dollar loss for legitimate items. I believe these are knock -off castings of GHQ and other manufacturers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Lar...d76ba53&pid=100033&rk=2&rkt=4&sd=231746423692 I guess the humorous part is the poor quality and perhaps the seller could get in trouble. I reported one of these guys once but I believe they came back under a different name...
There seems to be a bunch of this happening. Using CMW and others. I don't quite understand how they get away with it.
Wow, I remember buying a CASE of these at the old SMC (Sal Marino Company) on Staten Island for something like $10. And after looking at these vs. the other equipment I already had, I still felt like I got taken.
You should have held on to them, apparently they are worth quite a bit in Canada. I'm not going to lie, I really get into the vintage stuff from a historical perspective. I like the old Mehano stuff because it is normally such garbage but early N scalers often worked miracles sewing purses from these sow's ears, so to speak. I view the original generations of N scale equipment like old military vehicles in museums; only the military vehicles, more often than not, adequately fulfilled their roles when new despite being obsolete now. These wide body Bachmann GP40s are strange beasts at best and I am surprised that a seller wouldn't first look on eBay's "sold" listings to get an idea of street value before pricing this one so high... but again, it only takes one sucker.
Speaking about wishing I'd kept something, and seeing mention of the Bachmann GP40.... My very first N scale was a Bachmann set (BNRR) of GP40 and cars in a plastic case. (I believe it came inside a decorated cardboard sleeve?) Purely for sentimental reasons. Oh well.
Since resin castings were brought up, here's some nice ones. Granted they are only $3 (well, $6 with shipping) but the total lack of quality makes them not even worth $1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-3-U...317181?hash=item2a5a1a91fd:g:R0wAAOSwl9BWGvFU
Same guy...I've cast resin parts for YEARS and even without using a pressure pot or vacuum I have NEVER had as many air bubbles as this guy gets. It's like he is whipping his resin in a blender! Only thing I can think of is simulating stuff that has been shot up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-24p...799804?hash=item2a5a6e3a7c:g:s8cAAOSwAYtWIoLX
Now you got me started... Ok, MT graffiti rolling stock are not that easy to find (if you missed when they were released), but $61 a car for a lot? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Collection-...305163?hash=item1c5c8502cb:g:gUkAAOSw5VFWQTgq
While it doesn't say rare or vintage (it's both), this is a great example as to how far N scale has come. A Rapido Alco PA (I'm guessing here) with a terrible looking shell, worse factory paint, couples still attached to the trucks...we've come a LONG way since then. Still they want $30 for this classic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rapido-Sout...599038?hash=item1c5bd263be:g:ifgAAOSw5VFWMErA
Every once in awhile I have to post something from this guy (since nothing he has ever seems to sell). Here's an old Roco FA unit 'custom' painted and poorly decalled for $70: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Cus...099714?hash=item20e281a142:g:9IsAAOxykmZTLZ6d
Same guy here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Kato-N...147511?hash=item1a08e186b7:g:DC0AAOSw14xWFbbf All those item will be restocked by the end of the year. LOL Jason
Not sure how a DOT Urban Rapid Rail Program Support Car comes across listed as a MILWAUKEE ROAD 40' BOXCAR... It's not even a 40' boxcar in the photo. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MICRO-TRAIN...567912?hash=item5b1c48f768:g:8W4AAOSw3xJVXwe4
