I believe it was alternating, but honestly, it's been 9 years since I took this (and wow, it didn't feel like it's been 9 years. )

Now that spring is sprunging, it's time to go back a few months. Here's a shot of Pere Marquette 1225 getting prepped in mid-November 2014. This trip was the practice run of the North Pole Express trips that run 4 or 5 times per weekend during the Christmas season. The ashes are being dumped - note the guys with shovels. There are steel sheets between the rails. After the locomotive pulls out of the way the ashes are put in that dump hopper and taken by fork lift to the ash pile. The new wheelsets in the foreground are replacements for one of the passenger cars. George V.
