I guess we shouldn't even broach the subject of tunnels, should we?

Well since this thread derailed back about five pages ago I might as well go ahead and release the brakes on the last car and kick it over the embankment too. Why the fascination of the fairer speciecs of mankind for steam engines? It is because since almost the beginning of steam the locomotives have been referred to as She with a few exceptions. And they almost always have been high cost on the upkeep end. Don't feed them the right fuel and water and they refuse to steam right and occasionally blow a crown sheet usually with bad consequences for the engineer and all around at the time. Always in need of constant TLC in the backshops on a regular basis. Forgetting the scheduled maintenace is like forgetting a birthday or aniversary with the same bad result. And even though out of the same batch each one has thier own distinct personality. And when treated right, freshly wiped down, and properly maintained, each one is a beauty in motion that a four unit lash-up of dis easels can't match.

    Me? Derail a thread? Neva!.
    Oooops, my bad.

    New York Lawer -
    1) No question was asked or implied
    2) When am I ever serious?

As for the other "Responses", sheesh!, sometimes a locomotive is just a locomotive. Then again, sometimes < naaa, not gonna say it >.

I can seriously list 3 girlfriends and 8 other female friends / co-workers who have expressed overt preference for my steam locomotives.
Cute- 4-4-0, 4-6-0, "There soooo cute".
Nice - 4-6-2, 2-8-2, "I love the way they move."
    Handsome - N&W - J3 4-8-4, "Sooo sleek, soooo, yummy".
Very Pretty - Daylight 4-8-4, "You should buy one of those. Oh, $800 for loco and cars? Can we go to dinner first?"
My diesels? - no comment, zero, nada, zip

Admins / Mods - I swear I did not do this on purpose. Am I going to get another warming, er warning, er both? When I think back to the stir caused by my initial "Thrommer" loco design all I can say is, I should have known better than to, well post a reference to women and steam during the spring.

    Steve-

As long as it doesn't get too much sillier than now, don't worry.

Also remember that a steam locomotive was usually equipped with some sort of feminine attire known as a petticoat. This was an inverted funnel shaped item which aided in drawing gases from the smokebox out the stack.

    Steve-

You only stuck your toe into the water. Several others here jumped in to over waist high depth.

    You are all pigs.

My girl has not only an Orent Express (she's a Christie/Poirot fan), but she has a full MTL curcus train with a 4-4-0 & a 2-6-0 to pull it! She loves the old, decorated steamers.... and I agree, they're a thing of beauty! She wants a bavarian town layout in her office at work.... Freud would say something about those tunnels and trains going in & out and such.... LOL

Oink, oink, oink! As I tell my wife and daughter, we men may grow older that 13, but that is where our development stops. We may grow up, but we don't mature. :)

Lady Grandure is visiting tonight. I don't think I'll show her this thread. She thinks I and all of you guys, (even Fotheringil), are gentleman. < bemused grin >

Fortunatelly the thread title will not draw her attention.

I love my FVM Hiawatha, but face it, it doesn'thave complicated gearing. So while it is beautiful, it was a very safe foray into steam.
I hope FVM continues tomake steam. We can't have too many steamers.
Meanwhile Bachmann makes good affordable steam, in a number of varieties. And, by the way, thier warranty service is accesible and responsive.

Please don't discourage them. Diesel is sooo easy, everyone can do it :)
    Just sayin!

A reminder for all of you thinking about tunnels.
They work for electric, diesel and steam locomotives.
