hey guys i see this boxcar every once and a while over here on long island http://railfanning.org/graphics/refrigeratorcar.jpg microscale makes the decals for it BNSF Trinity Rail Group 82' Refrigerator Cars (2002+) Stock# 60-1235 is anybody making the car???
I asked an OHS recently and they said they are not currently being produced. That would be a (pun only kind of intended) very cool model.
I had one similar to that some time ago. I think Con Cor made it. Let me see if I can find it in my old database for some specifics. It wasn't exactly like that, but I do remember the icy graphics of the car. It was a reefer I remember that though.
I think Walthers sold the car, or one similar, called an Arcticar. It was a cryo car, pretty good sized as far as reefers go, and was sold out before the BNSF merger.
Actually, now that you mention that, it was called an Arcticar and was a Cryogenics car or something of that sort. I still think it was a Con Cor offering, but I had some older Walther cars too, so it could have been that too... And yeah, it was quite a bit larger and longer than most the reefers I had.
Ok, we're getting close. Apparently it WAS a Walthers car. This is like the one I had, but mine had the graphics similar to your original proto image. But, as far as the car, this was it. eBay.com.sg: Walthers N-Scale 70' GATX Arcticar Cryogebnic Refer (item 270612399247 end time Aug 01, 2010 03:18:40 SGT)
The Walthers Cryo reefer is the closest model made to date, but it's not really very close. It's based on this prototype: http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=45433 The BNSF reefer is longer (82' vs. 70'), has different end & roof detail, and, most importantly, has the exterior refrigeration gear on one end. BLMA and ExactRail are both going to produce a shorter version of the BNSF reefer, used by UP/ARMN: http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=3281 Hope this helps, Gary P.S. The BNSF reefer is still on my top-3 list of most-wanted piece of rolling stock...
I wouldn't have believed it to be so but its 82' 2" long. "nice microscale makes a decal for a car nobody makes!!!" There are a lot of cars that microscale ought to be making decals for and don't!!!
It apprears that no manufacturer has made a RTR. Has anyone scratch built or kitbashed one and might be willing to share? Also, is it me or do the doors look different on some of the posted photos?
They also make the decals for a Sea-land Maersk SDP40F that no one makes in N scale too. Seems to me that it would be kind of reduntant to make a product for something that doesn't exist.
Guess I learned something here. I didn't even realize there were two different sizes of this style car. Guess I'll have to pay more attention.
Guess those are made for the kit bashers and scratch builders amoung us. I know if I had the ability to scratch build one, it sure would be nice knowing I could get decals for it.
