My latest effort, an SP&S ev caboose. I really like the Hobbysmith run that Atlas did, but they are not easy to find.

Gave Z scale couplers a try on my C40-8. I'm impressed so far with how nice it makes the pilot and the rest of the details look compared to a normal N scale coupler.

This is a project I do every time I get Superliners... and it is really easy. After the cars were received (at at different periods of service), some of the window's where covered over to accommodate different internal configurations. The top car is a lounge and the window closest to the door was completely removed and replaced with a sheet of metal for additional storage in the snack bar area (this happened in the late 80's/early 90's). Next, the sleeping cars had one pain of glass replaced with a sheet of metal so an restroom could be on the top floor (this has happened in the last few years). The Coach (third down) had the down stairs window closest to the door removed for additional baggage storage (late 80's/early 90's). The fourth car down is the new Diner Lounge. This is a convert from the Superliner I diner. These conversions started in the last few years. The last car is a Coach with a snack bar in the down stairs area (modifications started in the late 80's/early 90's). Like I said, it is an easy (and fun) detailing project. I just finished up a few last night... and yes, those are Homer slippers (its cold in Colorado!).

Back at refurbishing a number of older passenger cars that were in storage and as my modeling tastes have changed so have some roadnames and paint colors on a few. Some were never finished for lack of decals. The trucks on a number of Atlas, Rivarrossi, and Concor cars are decent free rolling so they are being used after retro-fitting with MT1130s since I am also putting American Limited Diaphragms on all of them. And I now have 7 cars done for the Fast Mail to add to the express boxcars and reefers I already have so I am close to having enough for a 18-20 car Fast Mail to run behind my GM P-2Mountain or S-1 Northern.

Assembling that pile of MTs and the diaphragms takes some time but I am able to get about three cars done a day.

Now I'm waiting for a few Microscale sheets to arrive (They've reprinted the Super Chief sheets), the lightweight general service cars, Pennsylvania Tuscan cars (for my B60b), and some more ATSF Heavyweight head end cars...
After a coat of flat aluminum and Platinum mist...the car looks like this...

here's another pic of the prototype....

after the weekend I'll start fabricating the doors, adding the ladder grabs and gutters for the roof, then decalling.
It may turn out after all...we'll see.

Quite frankly, this would be an excellent subject for Roberto (M&R sides ) to do...he's done two versions of the corrugated Budd and ACF lightweight baggage cars...this one would be perfect!
    Thanks for looking,
    Bruce

Just got me an Atlas GP38-2 and a GP15-1. Recuperating from surgery, but going to install Z couplers on them as soon as I am more mobile. I think they look great and the close coupling is a plus.

I believe I have 3 GP38-2's and they are great locos. I don't use my GP15-1 too much, but had to have one in NS. Also looking at a NS MP15DC right now and I think my loco quest will be over for a while

My latest competions. Two Milw. ribside 50' woodchip cars. One was built from and Atal boxcar body the other a LL. The 50' ribbed chippers were built from 500 series boxcar with 6' doors. The 6' doors limited the usefulness of the car so some became 'chippers operating mostly in the Northwest......

Just finished these two earlier this evening. I bashed a SD40 into a Conrail SD38 (former Penn Central engines) with the help of two long hoods from Mark 4 Design. Why go through all the hard work when an easy solution is available... :)

    eNjoy!

Nicely done Brian! Did you have the Mark 4 hoods lying around, or did you order them recently?
