All kidding aside on the Brass GP-40, could this be one of the Jamco products, namely a brass casting of the Bachmann loco shell atop the standard Bachmann chassis? I know that Jamco did do some N Scale locos this way-- the word "knockoffs" comes to mind-- but they did exist. I never paid enough attention to them to know exactly which models they, um, produced.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Oil...979994?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27d37e14da I'm sure its a good model but...a little overpriced. I mainly posted it here for the...picture...better return to that call!
My friend just emailed me a picture of the "Brass" F7 that I painted. He still has it. A real collector item I suppose.
It is a Bachmann, but the shell is actually brass. These were made by Cal-Scale in the early 70's and sold by Gem Models (some sort of Bachmann subsidiary). They were made using the original Bachmann masters and ride on a standard Bachmann GP40 chassis. Gem also sold a brass F9 (of which I have seen several over the years), but this is the first brass GP40 I've ever seen. I think I read somewhere that only 15-25 of the brass GP40's were made. Definitely a collector's item. -Mark
'Over 75 cars' (I don't count that many) '14 engines, 7 engines have been tested and work great' (so the other 7 don't work?) 'Three of the engines need light repair (wheels need to added)' (missing wheels or missing drivers?) 'there are over 6 buildings' (does that mean 7?) but my favorite quotes are 'The largest engine is a 4-16-4 Rivarossi' (A 4-16-4! That IS rare!) and 'I do not intend to rip anyone off, me included.' (no comment). All for $1500 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-scale-mod...889727?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35c5729dbf
Maybe someone can translate this for me: NEEDS MOTOR REPLACED NEW MOTOR INCLUDED SMALLER THAN ONE THATS REPLACING BUT USABLE GEAR NEEDS TO BE GLUED ON SHAFT NEEDS REPAIR OR PARTS CHECK PICTURES CARE FULLY NO RETURNS VALE GEAR LOOKS LIKE ALL THERE BUT NEEDS PUTING BACK TOGETHER PLEASE DO NO BUY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SKILL TO FIX SOLD AS IS NO OFFFERS FIRST CLASS MAIL IS NOT TEACKED SO AT OWN RISK NOT IN USA I interpret that as the motor is junk but I have another motor...not the correct motor or even one that I knows works but a motor anyways. Valve gear may or may not be there but IS messed up. But what is 'first class mail is not teaked so at own risk not in USA'? So it's probably cheap? NOPE! $66 and $15 shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-STE...046789?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2ec88afa05
I HATE it when people sell junk like this: HUGE LOT OF BACHMANN TRAINS,CARS & TRUCKS W/ACCESSORIES & 2 CONTROLLERS Controllers are junk 80's plastic 'controllers', 1 engine, 3 freight cars, a bunch of bridge piers, some plastic cars and trucks, and some track. As a bonus you also get 4 Amtrak Passenger Cars, 6 Misc. Freight Cars, 1 Locomotive, 1 Caboose...all OLD Bachmann junk. But the thing that lights my fire is: This is an Awesome Bargain for the Novelist Train Set Collector, Builder or Newbie! No, it's trash. For $290 and $17.50 shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUGE-LOT-OF...325541?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item5654a59665
AND - read on: $24.97 Standard Shipping Item location: Lynden, Washington, United States Ships to: United States, Canada Delivery:Estimated between Mon. Jun. 24 and Fri. Jun. 28 Includes 5 business days handling time after receipt of cleare $25 for a $5 1st class or $5.40 priority item + $3 for insurance (which I doubt seller would buy) AND 5 days before it ships??? That alone would kill it for me.
Well - gee - First Class indeed is 'teaked' (TRACKED) if one buys the delivery conf, which BTW is free if one uses ebay to print the label. And if one does not 'teak' his sale, then that seller has no leg to stand on against the dreaded evilbay 'Buyer Guarentee Protection'
And what I dislike is them that toss in the stupid Power analog Transformers like they are super special - they are not worth the extra postage cost caused by the weight. Either toss em in the trash or sell them separate hboy:
Yep, 35 years old, and looks every day of it.. I wonder where he has been keeping it... "new but unboxed Bachmann loco purchased 35+ years ago with great plans that came to nothing" http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/N-scale-...del_Railways&hash=item4610005c4d#ht_23wt_1255
Looks like the thing has been beat with a hammer in a couple places. I doubt it even runs. And for over $100! If you were to buy this POS you would open it and immediately think, "Wait, I've been ROBBED!"
Hmmm. I'll check with my postal folks and see what this new teaking service is about. Sounds quite fancy. BTW- USPS does not offer delivery confirmation on First Class flat mails. This option was dropped several years ago. For parcels it is still available. Seems like that seller is confused.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the exact same engine...and it looks like it has been in a train wreck? If you are going to use one picture for multiple identical items, I would think you would use a better picture than one that has the handrails all jacked up and is out of focus. What's a duel drive (the two drives shoot at each other because one offended the other)? Saddest thing is someone is bidding on one of them... http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOUTHERN-PA...689583?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item56574a876f http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOUTHERN-PA...913612?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item5af21b04cc
