Old Bachmann train set with some spare old Life Like freight cars and buildings. The thing that gets this one here is the second picture...old Revel GP-30 (with crunched handrails), Bachmann F-7 and caboose combo and a...Hallmark F-7 Christmas ornament (I'm assuming it's a dummy ornament) for $219: http://www.ebay.com/itm/model-trains-n-gage-/181146113648?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2a2d265670
An old (and in rough shape) Atlas F unit and six old freight cars with no description other than they only ship to the US and 'Please Read: All 50 Cal Products 20mm, 30mm, 40mm are dummy ammunition and training and practice grenades known as Urban Trench Art. All of the items have been altered, re sized and cannot ever be reused as live ammunition.' I guess that explains the rough shape of the engine: $150 http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-Lot-of-...574106?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item232b4196da
I'm confused. Does this mean those few N items were unearthed from a Civil War battlefield? This might explain the asking price.
I'm just itchin to see what this is: "BID NOW TO RECEIVE YOUR SPECIAL TRAIN GIFT" What? the gift or the items pictured? EXCELLENT CONDITION CALL RON @917-7483621 OC Engineer JD couldn't have titled this thread any better, lol
This one made me laugh. I am sorry I can buy a FVM caboose for alot less, that is accurate and far better quality than this POS! http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Cus...l_RR_Trains&hash=item20b4d7102a#ht_680wt_1091 This one is funny too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CON-COR-N-S...l_RR_Trains&hash=item4ac1c5886f#ht_131wt_1091
I agree with Logtrain on this. Seems that some sellers either do not know what they are selling on perhaps thinking they can find some one that is a sucker.
Checking the Market Before You Price This one got a laugh out of me. This car was released in 2002 so it isn't really that old in the grand scheme of things MT. Also, $25 for a used car when others have it listed for $16 or at another online seller for $10.79? http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-CB-...958673?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27d35f3d11 I checked this seller has a bunch of N scale (and other things) at really high prices. Here's a couple more examples. Bachmann Doodlebug - $135 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doodlebug-B...l_RR_Trains&hash=item27d3478c14#ht_886wt_1399 Bachmann Crane Car - $40 http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Cra..._RR_Trains&hash=item27d35f6513#ht_1070wt_1399 I wish I could have got that much for my Bachmann Doodlebug.
Those ones are just so horribly, disgustingly ugly I can`t bear to look at them. That one is a total whitewash as I got one of those Milwaukee hoppers with MT Couplers for only $5. The ones that are starting to make me laugh cynically are the ones listing Kadee Blue Label cars for a hundred and some dollars only because they were part of Micro-Trains Co-Founder Dale Edwards’ personal collection. The exact some cars can generally be had for a lot less even though they did not belong to him. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20058-RD-27...090085?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4173c3dca5
There are some certain cases of which I'm aware where the provenance of a scarce coin can add to the value. For example, when the Arthur Conan Doyle coin collection was sold (yes, that Arthur Conan Doyle) I'm told that the coins got a premium for having been part of that collection. But there needs to be some evidence that the item was owned by the person, in this case Dale Edwards. Maybe a signed certificate of authenticity or something.* In this case, there not only isn't that, but the MTL logo on the printed explanation (the fourth image in the listing) isn't right-- the real one is rounded at the corners, for example. I have an otherwise relatively ordinary N Scale Collector "Banquet Car" from the Tacoma Convention with a label that was signed by Keith and Coral Edwards. I would expect that should I need to sell it for some reason, I would ask a little more than the usual for it. But I don't intend to sell it so it's all hypothetical anyway. *Which reminds me of a story... I received an autographed Stevie Nicks album from my brother for my last birthday. It had a signed certificate of authencity. My brother joked, "Yeah, it was signed by the guy who signed the album." (I actually do think that Stevie's signature on the LP is real, though.)
Of the hundreds of cars this seller bought from Dale Edward's collection (sold by a grandson) at an average price of about $20.00, I've seen only three cars resold. One tankcar went for $60, arguably $20-$25 over-priced, and two caboose(s) that the buyers paid a $15-$18 premium. They were 6 or 7 unique cars in the lots he bought, all of which would draw serious interest from collectors if offered at the National convention where they could be inspected in person. The one car printed on only one side that he's been trying to peddle for thousands of dollars, is virtually worthless in my opinion as there must be dozens of people at the factory who could have walked through the production area and picked up a car(or many cars?) before it was printed on the second side. Who knows for sure that dozens of these supposedly 'error' cars don't exist? http://www.ebay.com/itm/281115090615
That guy has been outed on here before. He also has poor copies of the JNJ B&O Wagontop in his listing. He is copying the resin body, sticking it on a standard caboose chassis and selling it as something special. I confronted him on the B&O's and asked him why the ladder is on the wrong side of the car.....he didn't reply. I feel sorry for anybody that buys his crap. The Milwaukee is a copy of the JNJ body also, a poor one, but a copy just the same.
Remember the Seinfeld episode where George buys a car because the owner said it once belonged to Jon Voight? And after George buys the car, he finds out that the owner's name was John Voight a person who was not the actor. (Notice the "h" added to the "John") :crying: While we are on the subject of rare items I have a 2013 penny that was once owned by Abraham Lincoln.:cute:
On a positive note, I have 3 never-run, MT N-scale freight cars on ebay right now at giveaway prices, with cheap shipping. Just look for ebay seller, SundayNiagara.
I don't know why you guys are harping on this so much. There are people out there that collect and this stuff means something to them. The problem is, they don't frequent Ebay. The n scale collector market is nothing like is used to be, but it is still there. The crazy high prices have settled down but there is a history behind these prices. I have a friend who put his kids through college by selling cars from his collection in the late 90's, early 2000's. He started collecting from the first Kadee releases. He said he cleared close to $20K on the cars. His highest individual selling car went for over $1000.00, for a car he paid less than $5 for when new. When the economy shrunk, so did the inflated prices for MT cars but these cars are still rare and unique in many cases. If you don't appreciate the rare, don't complain about somebody else who does. PS. I don't collect except for some unique cars related to my roads of choice. I don't have a dog in this fight, although I do have a "rare" misprint car that it only printed on one side that was aquired from a hobbyshop, not knowing anything was wrong with it, so these things do happen, it's not a conspiracy.
