So what is happening here? People who know absolutely nothing about N scale making up prices and descriptions and selling gto OTHER people who know absolutely nothing about N scale? I wouldn't be surprsed if one of these lost souls saw the track joiner pic and said "Wow! That's huge! Must be at least 2 pounds of aluminum there! GOTTA GET IT!!!"

That's what we're all trying to figure out. At first the answer seems simple, of both buyers and sellers, just way too many stupid people out there. But after seeing so many used rail joiners with bids and items that are squished, melted, or otherwise deformed to uselessness, I believe even an Einstein caliber of mind would be confused.

The best thing is something that an earlier posted said about the rail joiners:

Even if it did sell, he's got the listing fees to pay for, paypal fees if paypal is used and then he is shipping it for free.

So he's basically paying to sell it to someone!

Remember the vertical loops we used to make with Hot Wheels Track? What if you made one from some code 80 flex and put this unit inside of the loop? It would roll itself along the floor! Maybe one of the more industrius modelers around could turn it into an automated flextrack laying machine!

My question is how could you bend it like that? Run over by a car (that's a 1:1 automobile)?

Had to really look at this one. No sign of a three pound hammer being taken to it since the top and wires are fairly blemish free. I've seen the dreaded Zmactitis disease do a lot of things and if it is that it is a first for me to see this effect. Did notice that the paint is really ragged like it had been exposed to heat or a strong solvent but no sign of being in a fire looking at the rest of the components. Wouldn't be supprised if it didn't run but only one axle on each truck would be touching the track. Talk about current pick-up issues. However for a source of parts from motor to gears to trucks it may have some value. Almost beats out the rail joiners.

Maybe he was trying to model a loco that would run with this car?

Ah. Maybe now you're on to something. I'm sure a lot of people would then be interested, bidding spirited!

Looking closely at the photos you can see the motor frame is bent in one place and the lead upper weight is curved -- I'd bet it was run over by something with rubber tires but lots of weight -- a motorcycle? Whatever it was obviously shattered the shell. the only other thing I can think of is was put in a vice and compressed, but then the deformations would be at all angles.

If that loco fetches that price I might have to break out the two, not in the same paint scheme but the older mechanism, plus some of my cabbeese and a few cars. With the funds from those I should be able to buy the E-5 set plus the two additinal locos, the new 2-6-0, a Challenger, and take the Missus to Bermuda for this winter.

You would have to throw in the boxcars and the caboose but still, $900 for used?

    MT Presidential Oath of Office

$600 for a Micro-Trains Presidential Oath of Office boxcar? What kind of idiot would ask that much . . . Oh Snap! That's my listing!

    Presidential Oath of Office Boxcar

I figured I would go crazy big and see if there are any takers. I've always want to make the ebay Humor thread and I couldn't take the chance that nobody would see it. Did anyone catch my "factory air" comment? [IMG] I've learned so much by reading this thread.
