Boy, I hope the rear-end crew survived. However, it's a great photo from purely a technical perspective.
Ex Grand Canyon Railway #20 and Ex Lake Superior & Ishpening #18 heading west from Grand Junction, CO on 1/5/08. bravogjt
The 2-8-0 load is fascinating but would cost too much for any sane person to consider... Love the engines though, they're now at the Rio Grande Scenic in Alamosa
Odd1rails; here's a prototype for you: Wrecked Horizon Coach 54045 (?) sits on the US Govt Railroad wye at Camp Pendleton, CA (ex-ATSF Fallbrook Branch). Possibly parked here to keep it out of the public view while it waits to move, rather than in the nearby Oceanside yard. Photo taken circa 1993.
LS&I 18 is now San Luis & Rio Grande 18, operating over LaVeta Pass in southern CO--why was it headed west out of GJ, I wonder?
My understanding is that their was a height issue in one of the tunnels so they ended up rerouting the engines to get around the Moffat area. Ben
