Welded rail bunk styles I will get some and post them. We have done the SP/UP style, and BNSF style and a generic one. Pictures of the three styles below - apologies to the owners of the pictures - the images are from rrpicturearchives The models will have four stacks of rail, and fewer rails per bunk than these originals. We had not planned to do any of the end MoW cars, as they seem so different according to the railroad, but would be interested to hear views. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits N Scale Kits
Rail bunk pre production photos The pre production samples are shown in the thumbnail. The bunks are designed to fit on a variety of commercially available flatcars as well as our own 60' flatcars. The bunks shown can be related to the prototypes on the previous post. Sorry these are not on a car to show how they work, but the design allows the bunks to be drilled or glued into place, as a pair [only one of each type shown below] You can only see the outside of the bunks here, but on the other side are the rail rack cups where the rail rack are placed on the bunks. There will be four racks on each bunk. On the photo the bottom rack shown is not quite right, as the racks should be more detailed, and this will be corrected. The bottom rack is best glued onto the bunk to give stability, but the other three can be left unglued, so that they can be removed in order to thread the rail easily - for those who move their consists around for shows and Clubs etc. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits N Scale Kits
Interestingly, CP built at least some of their welded rail cars using gondolas. I found this picture posted on a local website. Looks like the kit could be combined with MT Drop End Gondolas for a reasonable facsimilie. http://www.theboykos.com/westrr/cpwpg/CP_Welded_Rail_Train_2_20020821.jpg
We have had a problem with the toolmaker for the extrusion tool. We are pursuing this actively, but it has meant a delay. The extrusion tooling was being done elsewhere, so we had little control over this, as it is a very specialized job. We do still intend to produce this product, and will let folks know on TrainBoard when we have overcome this latest hurdle. Sorry about this but we really do want to get it right. Same as before - still working on it - but getting frustrated at the lack of action at the toolmakers. I am pursuing this further and probably at another company; the problem is getting someone else interested. We had tried an awful lot of deadends before getting the manufacturer involved. I am not sure that there are many alternative manufacturers this side of the pond. I may have to go further afield. Be assured that I will post to TB first. New tooling completed and pre production run completed Hooray!!! The new tools seems to have been successful - the new rail is being shipped to us today, and as soon as we are able to will will put some details up. We are very sorry about the length of time it has taken to get this ready; the first toolmaker could not do the job and we had to really hunt for another toolmaker who was prepared to do this - but we are pleased with the outcome. More news as soon as the mail gets here! Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits N Scale Kits
First pictures of the pre production samples - apologies for the poor quality of the macros. The tooling is fantastic - just not sure about the flexibility of the first run, as it might be a bit springy! This is not a problem as this can be adjusted very easily. We aim to have this ready by the start of October 2008. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits N Scale Kits
Peter showed me the rail samples a couple of days ago, and they are superb! The shape of the rail is spot on. Should be worth waiting for.
Just checking in to see when we might see the start of production of the rail or any new updates to this project. Thanks, Cody
We have been busy with the new projects [new spine and logging cars], but have just posted the first pre production rail for photographs etc.on a welded rail train . I had hoped to get the bunks into production this week, but it will now be next week, so we should have evrything ready by Nov 1. We will put details up on Trainboard and the website as soon as we can The first 1000 yards of the rail is at the workshop now! Best wishes Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits N Scale Kits

Very cool....and the price is right! To make sure I'm reading it correctly, that's 50 FEET of rail and 20 bunks (for 10 cars, two per car) for US$24 correct?
