Good progess Hemi, just love the scenes you are modelling. It looks like a real challenge to capture the "feel" area. I am liking what I see so far and can feel my own inspiration building up as I need to get the plaster work done on my upper level. GO HEMI!!!
Thanks, Ken! Your progress during the layout party was quite inspirational as well. Today, I built Tunnel 5, and added Flatirons to Tunnel 6/7. I hope I can carve them to look like real Flatirons! Mickey Mouse Wall will go on the backside of Tunnel 7's Flatirons, and is a prominent feature visible for miles. Of course, mine will be much more scaled-down.
Mickey Mouse Wall, a popular local rock climbing spot, is the prominent Flatiron finger in the right of this photo at Tunnel 5: Another view, from Rainbow Cut, looking on as a WB coal empty charges thru Tunnel 3, and into Tunnel 4:
Jeremiah Looking good. I like the quick progress you can make working with the foam. Nothing like a Woodland Scenic Hot wire cutter to speed the process up.
come one Hemi! Show them the mess you made first!!! I swear, I've never seen so much foam all over the house.
OK, OK, I shot those last couple AFTER 30 minutes' worth of Shop-Vac.... It looked like a foam board exploded in there. But most of those scraps were useful again!
It's been a while, and with 10-12 hr days still continuing, and some saturdays as well, the job is busy as ever. I did manage to rebuild Tunnel 10 (which also doubles as Tunnel 15), and created the west portal area of T15. Scenic landforming in South Draw is progressing toward Tunnel 16 as well. Pics soon...
That should look sweet once the scenery is in place. And that Santa Fe unit looks pretty sharp as well.
To give folks a different view of what HEMI is modeling I recently video taped Amtrak #5 passing through the Tunnel District and hope to have a simular video of Train#6 going the other direction. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AetppJVAb1Y"]YouTube - Amtrak #5 - Part 02[/ame]
:thumbs_up:*DROOL* *DROOOOOOL* Thanks for posting, Darren! I like the abbreviated tunnels, too. No 30 seconds of black screen!:mtongue:
I have been busy roughing-in South Draw.... It's slow-going, but little, by little, I am building a valley bowl. Once South Draw's valley is framed, I'll build scenery fromt he bottom up, and then build the Tunnel 16 area, Old Tunnel 17, and up to east portal of T17. I can't really buiild this much until I have the removable scenery (for access) in South Draw, so the terrain countours match.
Awesome footage - that train really hugs the rocks around some of those turns. Great scenery - no wonder Hemi loves the area so much.
Loads of cutting, and trimming and fitting to go yet. It is removable, so I can clean track, access a derailment, and take photos. Make no mistake, I made a mess when I built this area!
Why do I have a sudden craving for "bubble-gum" ice cream? Keep up the good work, were all rootin' for ya'!:teeth:
Heheheee... Ice cream sounds delicious now... South Draw is roughed-in now, but work schedules and other things prevent working on it during the week. Tomorrow is a club meeting, and we're working on the Pete Ellis estate layout. Gotta get it running by the State Fair!
